For all the pronunciation differences between this and the Finishing School books, I still enjoyed the audio immensely. Emily Gray did a fantastic job and I'm dying for book three, not in the least thanks to that ending. "What could happen in the final 5-10 minutes?" Ohhhh buddy. I won't be asking that question again when it comes to Gail Carriger's books. Wuff.
I loved the inclusion of Sidheag Maccon and Genevieve Lefoux, two of my Finishing School favorites. The timelines get a bit mixed up in my head to the point where I wonder if I shouldn't have read this series first and then gone back and read the prequel series, considering publication order... but I don't care, I like it this way :)
BR with a select few awesome MacHalos

This book was fine, I just couldn't get into it. I quit at the 25% mark, but wouldn't rule out trying it again someday.
This book was so good it almost got me killed. No joke. Two guys broke into my house while I was reading this book. I didn't find out until 15 minutes after the police showed up. My SO just told me when he finished with the police. I didn't hear a thing. I liked this one more than the first. I'll be starting the third soon. I'll need to have a glass of wine first! (Be warned: do not read this book if you're alone in the house, you may get robbed because you'll be in a different world)
I'm sorry I am about to review (briefly) a book that isn't the first in a series on here. I started this series before I started blogging, and long before I started Goodreads. It happens, and it will happen again.
This book is the second in the Alexia Tarabotti series (first being [b:Soulless|6381205|Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1)|Gail Carriger|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1314020848s/6381205.jpg|6569140]). Although she is now married to Lord Maccon, so really is Alexia Maccon now. The book picks up in the same whimsical, Victorian, steampunk, supernatural, romance thread as the first. Although, now we are all married, there is less heavy breathing and a lot more bottom descriptions. This is not a complaint, just an observation.
Besides bottoms, the book has us with the Maccons in wedded, sexy bliss, however Lord Maccon buggers off North on werewolf business without telling the newly acquired wife. The Wife, being Alexia, promptly snoops around (or is duly told about in her position on Queen Victoria's Shadow Council) and then follows husband dear to Scotland to solve the mystery and to save Britain.
Now. I was all on board. I was even lording this one as better than the first. And I still think it is, except for the last chapter. It all left a nasty taste in my mouth. I hope it gets sorted sooner rather than later, as I am happy to give it up if it continues along these lines. I love this series as a fantastical diversion, but this screams too much real life for me, even though the problem is reasonably explained in the magical world the book exists in (although no one is listening). I will give Gail Carriger the benefit of the doubt as she has surprised me in every book. But I am both interested and hesitant at what will be in store for Alexia in the future.

Another enjoyable read featuring Lady Alexia Maccon (nee Tarabotti) and her assorted friends and loved ones. This time around, something is causing the supernatural community to lose their powers and it's up to Alexia to figure out what's making the vampires and werewolves mortal.
Along the way she has to deal with Ivy's love life, her sister's interference and a mysterious French hat maker. She manages it all with beautiful manners, a little snark, and a lot of steampunk thrown in.
This series is a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the next book!

Even better than the first one! I almost gave this book 5 stars but it wasn't quite at that level, there were a few moments I found irritating but overall it was a great book.
The mystery was well done and built up in a way that made sense, there were a few new characters that I really loved and the plot twist at the end was also amazing.
All in all, I'd give it 4.5 stars.

Read this for a third time, on audiobook this time and not only is it a book in my fairies series it’s my favourite book in the series! So much happens it’s wild and yet it all makes perfect sense! Carriger can really craft a story, I love her work so much
Second read and I think this series might just be the ULTIMATE series. It’s got everything I want, vampires, werewolves, steampunk, a brave heroine, romance, history, gothic elements, sci-fi elements, the list is endless this is my soul in a series ironically
These books are amazing! This one ended on much more of a cliff hanger though and had a lot more gothic elements than the first which I loved. Rearranging my whole day just to go to the library and get the next

All I can say is that this is my newest favorite series. Funny and original...can't wait to read #3
