Not quite as good as the first book, [b:Soulless|6381205|Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1)|Gail Carriger|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1314020848s/6381205.jpg|6569140], but still a great romp (with even more romping than the first novel). The fantastic twist at the end gets you just as hooked for book number 3 than is really right or fair.

The beginning of this book reminds me strongly of some of those Pride and Prejudice sequels that just have lots of marital errors. It made me laugh quite a bit with Alexia's husband and his inability to tell her anything that is going on. I also like to see that while she loves him, she's not one of those gooey in love type of people, which would not be in character for her. I like that the major threat was something so humanizing and that made it interesting. By chapter 3, you kind of expect that conall will learn from his mistakes and start telling Alexa something, but instead he just leaves are half a hint. I like the mode of transportation Alexia was forced to use to catch up with her husband. The relatives and his great-great great granddaughter was amazing. The use of Egypt , plus learning some history of the werewolves was very interesting. I expected the betrayal from very early on and yet I was still sad when it happened. The action towards the end was quite interesting and I was very happy that this time Alexia was not just the damsel-in-distress needing saving from her big strong werewolf husband. The end made me quite angry, not the way that it ended but just I felt the emotions that Alexia was feeling. It was an excellent book!

loved it!! the characters and the setting. Easy read that draws you in so fast you get whip lash. I have the whole box set so the cliffhanger doesn't bother me like so many other reviewers. I do hope Conall has to beg and plead and put the figurative and literal tail between his legs when it turns out the babe is really his!! Can't wait for book 3!!

Reread Oct 2017 .... I'm still pissed at conall for his reaction....yes it was shocking up instantly with the name calling and after she saved his whole experience pack and supernatural in general.....alexia is obviously special. Bad puppy!!

Reread March 2019...felicity ...sigh. alexia should have pushed her overboard and called it a day. And conall being a butt at the end :(

Things I would like to say:

1) Madame Lefoux was the salvation of this book, those lethal dimples! How could Alexia resist them?

2) Lord Maccon is a huge, brainless, asshole ninny. I found him rather useless before but by the end of this book I wish Alexia had bashed that parasol into his head several dozen times.

3) I had forgotten how irritating and sometimes annoyingly obtuse this series' writing style can be. If Madame Lefoux hadn't been there, I would have thrown it onto the dnf pile because the main mystery was so freaking dull and such an anticlimax. By the end I didn't even care what was causing the changelessness or how or why it might even matter.

4) My blood boils every time these authors pontificate about the glory of the British Empire and the East India Company and the soldiers casually discussing how they hated India, how the food wasn't good. Well, you could have f**ked off any bloody time, the Indians didn't want you to be there, we didn't ask to be colonised and have British regiments trampling our soils and killing our people all over the subcontinent. I swear you'd think that in this day and age a writer might be able to write a novel set in Victorian England without bringing up the subcontinent or at least in a less offensive manner but well, what does it matter since it's only the people of the subcontinent who are offended. That has always been the case and I doubt it would change anytime soon. I did not mean to turn this review into a rant but well there you are.

I read book one "Soulless" quite a while ago, and while I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was such a change of pace from my other books, I didn't feel compelled to pick up the sequel immediately, although I knew I'd come back to it at some point.

I've been on a bit of a "continue on after the first book" trend, and going back and picking up on several series I was only the first book in. I vaguely remembered the story and the characters, and had absolutely no trouble getting back into this world.

These books are just so silly and fun. I love the language! And the romance ... there was a LOT of amorous attention and innuendo going on between husband and wife (they are newlyweds after all).

I did enjoy the storyline and was interested in where it would end up ... that being said, I was NOT happy with then ending :( Unfortunately my library doesn't have the sequel in digital format. What to do ...

I read this about five years ago ... I had wondered why I stopped (I wrote that I did NOT like the ending, and it frustrated me again the second go-round). It was because the library didn't have the next book in digital format. Now they do, and I'm going audio this time. Re-reads for books 1-2, and I WILL be continuing on. The next book is on hold and should be in shortly.

I love the accent you get with the narration - it adds to the ambience of the story. Some of the names and activities are so silly, but fun. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. I probably had some highlights the first read, when I had the kindle copy.

Quite the cliffhanger! And from here on out it will be new, not a re-read. After five years, I just remembered the general setting and such, and had only vague memories of what was happening.
