In Carriger's follow up to her first novel, Soulless, Alexia Tarabotti is back along with her werewolf husband. A plague of humanitization is affecting the paranormal world causing werewolves & vamps to become human and thus mortal and exorcising ghosts. The plauge is geographically contained however and of a relatively short duration. The crown fears a new super weapon and so does Alexia. Meanwhile the vamps and wolves are desperate to find out what could make them so vulnerable.
Changeless was not as engaging as Soulless. There were few laugh out loud moments for me and the plot dragged endlessly. I'd say this book is suffering from a sophmore slump because based on the first novel, clearly Carriger is a brilliant writer. I almost put the book down half a dozen times but forced myself to keep reading. The french inventor annoys the heck out of me, as does Alexia's reaction to her. SO disingenuous. Alexia is supposed to be obsessed with Conall so her reactions to the inventor seem inserted for titillation at best.
I was set to give up on the series. Right up until the last chapter. Damn you Gail Carriger for writing a nasty cliff-hanger that has me curious again! Now I'll HAVE to read the third book, Blameless. I sincerely hope it returns to Soulless's brilliance.

I enjoyed this book, just like the one before it. I laughed out loud a few times, definitely enjoyed more LGBT representation and interesting steampunk elements. I also enjoyed getting more of the lore on our supernatural creatures. Loved the introduction of Madame Lefoux! I also really enjoyed learning more about the Scotland pack as well as seeing a bit of werewolves and vampires working together with Lyall.
The big drawback I had with the book was that it felt more like a backstory and set up for the next book than something on it's own. There was certainly the mysterious main plot line of the 'mass exorcism.' However, I felt that the focus was more on people's past and giving us plot points for the next book, so made it feel a bit less substantial.

This was more of a 3.5/5, I liked it but I just couldn't give it a 4 stars, there were just too many things that I wasn't quite liking in this story. I'm still not quite sure about this writing style, It's funny, and quick whitted but most of the time the comments or humor just doesn't seem to fit in the scene.
There is a part of me that is enjoying this simple story, and there is another part of me that feels like it's missing something? Maybe because it's told in the 3rd person and I don't feel anything for the main characters because I am not inside their head?
The steampunk aspect is fun, although I can't quite follow along with a lot of the descriptions of the contraptions they are talking about!!
This is a simple story about werewolves, vampires, and women of the late 1800's who like to drink tea A LOT!!

I did not love this as much as Soulless but my expectations might have been too high for this one. I think I prefered Soulless for the romance - a little too much steampunk in Changeless for my taste. BUT the ending! I loved it, hated it, cursed author for leaving me hanging, thanked author for keeping it exciting... Between waiting for the third Hunger Games in August and Blameless in September, I am at a loss as to what to do for the next four months.

Absolutely charming! I was giggling start to finish. I love Alexia’s brisk way of taking everything in stride. I was though, very sad by Lord Macon throwing her out at the end, believing her to have cheated. I’m sure it will be set to rights and cause many a hilarious encounter, but I’m still sad.

I love this series, which is extremely witty and funny. Top notch audiobook performance.
Minor: Colonisation
Just finished reading and I'm rather in shock. I'm very glad I have the next book in the series, because... damn...

*Contains Spoilers if you haven’t read Soulless! {Im really proud that I was able to keep this review free of spoilers for Changeless and Blameless! YAY!}
My name is Larissa and I am a Spoilerholic! I love spoilers but sometimes my addiction comes and bites me in the butt. Right around the time Changeless came out I made the mistake of reading the blurb for Blameless. That was it, I could NOT read Changeless and deal with the wait for the the next book, so I just waited for the release of Blameless to get close before I read Changeless.
I brought my copy of Changeless on my NY trip and devoured it in hours. My first trip to Barnes & Noble had me getting a copy of Blameless, but before I could do that I ended up buying the kindle version as well, since I didn’t know when I was gonna be able to go to a bookstore. YES, that’s how much I needed to read Blameless.
What I learned from my experience is how amazing the Parasol Protectorate series is and that Soulless was NOT the work of a one hit wonder. Gail Carriger is an amazing writer that has been able to convey the Victorian era beautifully and at the same time add all my favorite elements in the paranormal genre to it.
Alexia and Connall go through the ringer in Changeless and Blameless, I laughed and I cried with them and mostly I just wanted to punch Connall until he came to his senses. Most of all, though, I felt a lot of different emotions while reading these books and in this day and age where you can find so many books and series in your favorite genres, that is the best you can ask for. A story and characters that make you feel strongly is what sets those books apart for me and Gail has delivered that in spades.
I am a card carrying Gail Carriger fan now and I cannot wait for what she will come up with next and for Alexia and Connall’s next adventures! If you haven’t read this series yet, please do, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
