Finally finished this book unfortunately it had the curse of the second book for me and felt extremely slow for most of the first half of the book.
I felt the pace could have been better laid out through the book and I was also annoyed by the final outcome of an event in this book causing Lady Maccon to be banished from the pack, especially keeping in mind she turns Conall human when they touch, seemed somewhat far fetched for dramatic effect which I just found plain annoying!

Somewhere between three and four stars. Stupid but enjoyable. I stick by my 'delightful nonsense' rating I gave the first one. This ends on kind of an emotional bombshell and I want to read the next one, but I have a bunch of library books to get through before they're due.
The second installment in the Parasol Protectorate series wasn't really up to the same standard as the first. I found it quite difficult to motivate myself to pick it back up again every time I took a break, because the plot just didn't capture me this time around. The characters (especially Ivy) began to feel a little like caricatures, and the portrayal of the Scottish accent was particularly cringey in this one. Saying that, it had a strong ending, and I will be picking up book three at some point because, well, it's on my Kindle anyway so I might as well see what happens next! Just hopefully it's a bit better than this one.
Not quite as delightful as the first in the series but a fun read nevertheless. Plot dragged a little and there were several subplots I did not find interesting (i.e., anything with Ivy). I actually appreciated some of the frustrating plot points - Lord Maccon deliberately and inexplicably leaving Alexia in the dark - and the intense ending as they deviated from the romance which was growing a bit stale. I love how Carriger balances the supernatural elements of the world she is writing with the 19th century!

I love this book but the ending will always upset me.
This series continues to be an absolute delight! The ending to this one will leave you clamoring to get your hands on the next.
