oh damn, i'm furious but that ending was definitely enough to keep me reading.

Wow, the second book in the parasol protectorate tunes down on the romance and up on the steampunk. The story brings us to Scotland to investigate a humanization disease, turning supernatural beings into mortals again.
The adventure is gripping, Alexia delightful again, and the writing is witty.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
But be aware of such a cliffhanger ending that you want to start reading the third book immediately!

This took me entirely to long to read but I loved every second of it. The characters were so much fun and the world is developing so nicely. Can't wait to get my hands on the next for sure!!! It will happen asap!

conall maccon your days are numbered

Alexia Tarraboti is now Lady Maccon, living with her husband Conall Maccon and they are still themselves. Witty banter but definitely in love.
In this installment, something is affecting preternatural creatures to where they were losing the supernatural abilities. Never fear because Alexia is on the job, of course she has to first convince the community that she isn't the cause of the problem first.

The great thing about this series is that it isn't your typical cliche PNR story. The heroine is strong, witty, clever and a real partner to her werewolf husband. I like how they have a subtle competition in solving mysteries. They are a fun couple and I hope everything get put back to rights in book 3 because that ending was sad.

Just a delightful reading experience! These books are funny and sexy with a bit of mystery and a truly kick-ass heroine. I'm loving this series!

Victorian Society full of vampires, werewolves, ghosts and spies. What's not to love?

Sometimes you just need a good comfort read that doesn't require too much thinking. Gail Carriger is quickly becoming my go-to author for such books. This book was full of frivolous fun, while still sporting strong, independent female characters. I think I liked this one even more than the first book. (Even though the "surprise twist" ending wasn't a surprise. I had been expecting it for the entire book.) It was still a fun read and, with the book ending on a cliffhanger, I'll have to go and read the next book soon to find out what happens next.

For most of the book, I couldn't tell what the big "Problem" was. I liked the lady scientist and the complexities of her relationship with Alexia. The "steampunk" aspect of the sequel was more prevalent than in the original, but that's not really something I enjoyed. Still, it just kind of limped along.

I think that the first book appealed to readers of paranormal romance who really enjoy the strain of those unique relationships. Series about happily married couples don't generally intrigue those readers. The sequel would fit into an entirely different genre -- paranormal steampunk mystery? I dunno, it wasn't my cup of tea.

I got very excited by reviews that mentioned a "Big Change" at the end of the book... thinking it might explain why the series is still called "Alexia Tarabotti" when Alexia is now called "Alexia Macon", but alas, it wasn't to be. Happily married, even at the end. Blah.

Sad. I still give Soulless 5 stars, but Changeless just gets 2.
