a nice easy read with plenty of plot and some great characterization. If you like crime/mystery solving, steampunk or think you might this is a good read and enjoy.

I cannot believe it took me a year to finish this. That's right, nearly a year. It started off quite well, but it just got laborious in the chunk of the middle, and only recently I remembered that I hadn't completed the novel, and suddenly it picked up. Strange, but that's one hell of a whirlwind cliffhanger, I must say!

Equally as good as the first book! Especially with the commentary on stealing other countries' artifacts (and underlying reasons for doing so in the first place). Really enjoy both Lord and Lady Maccon (and am sadly relating to having a friend like Ivy....). The relationships in this series are very diverse -- fantastic (and still all too rare in fantasy! I was spoiled by growing up on Tamora Pierce, who has such a natural way with diverse characters that I figured more fantasy would be like her. How wrong I have been.).
Can only say this book ended with a reveal that I absolutely loathe... but I started #3 immediately, and it seems like Alexia also loathes it. So yay!

Not even close to its predecessor....just flat and boring, none of the witty banter, exciting action, or humor. DNF.
Yes, I'm officially hooked, specifically on the audio of this series. The voices are pretty perfect (although, occasionally, seem to change just a teensy bit, so I'll think the voice is Professor Lyall, and it's actually Alexia.) My favorite scene, though, is one that echoes my real life:
Connall: I do hate it when you come off all correct, Wife.
Alexia: Oh, but I'm so good at it.
That said, the mystery was a little predictable once it got going, but I enjoy the character so much that I was willing to forgive a little transparency. I kind of abhor the entire Loontwill family, and I get that they're in there for comic relief, but I find them less funny and more annoying.

Uff.
Consigliato: sì... tranne le ultime tre pagine...

The actual mystery was just ok ... but I did not realize how attached I had become to the MC until I got to the cliffhanger end and got all indignant on her behalf.
Well done, Ms. Carriger!

not as good as the first one, I basically figured it out halfway through. Glad she used the parasol more but overall, meh. I'll still read the 3rd one though.
