Relacja głównych bohaterów nabiera pewnych emocji, choć wciąż daleko jej do ideału, jednak rozmach świata nadal przytłacza. Mimo to czyta się lepiej — ja przynajmniej w drugiej połowie byłam zaintrygowana.
Końcówka oczywiście rozwala i zostawia czytelnika z myślą: „Muszę przeczytać kolejną część…”. Helfyre sprawia jednak wrażenie przydługiego i nieco nudnego wstępu do wielkiej serii.
Moja ocena 4/10
I saw another review that said this is what happens when you have your Wattpad phase in your 30s, and I absolutely agree. I couldn’t even vaguely understand where this was going, and what the author was intending, because absolutely no world building or explanation was happening in the first few chapters. And the time jumping didn’t help.
The only reason I know this is a Persephone and Hades retelling is because of other reviews I started reading while I was listening to the audiobook (which shows you how not invested I was). And I did that because I needed some explanation as to what I was supposed to be expecting from the plot. It shouldn’t take almost 50 pages before you start providing world building and a backstory that makes sense and isn’t some weird vague dream memory. Which I would like to point out was not happening when I finally quit. Absolutely no explanation and no world building.
And who knows, maybe I’m absolutely in the wrong and all that stuff starts happening immediately in chapter 5. But I am far too old and I have far too many books that I want to read to waste my time on something that is just pissing me off.

There's no real story to this book still 70% in. Trading your soul to escape your lands happens on the first page... But we still don't know kinda why. We have no reason to think that Arioch is even remotely a dangerous guy. There's NOTHING that has happened other than pining over your soul...kinda? Doesn't seem to have any negative consequences and don't know why that's the price to come to his land... and telling her she can't "please" herself.
The writing felt like the author was trying to meet a word count number by adding tons of unnecessary words. Also, if the author has made up so many words that a 4 page pronunciation and definition guide is needed just to read the book, that's too many. DNF
This book was alright. I liked it, I didn’t love it. I wanted to love it more because I was follow the author as she was writing this book. As a first published novel, it was an ok high fantasy book. It felt a bit slow at times and but I like premise of the book. I didn’t know it was a series, and as I was getting to the end of the book, I was worried that it was gonna be a cheap wrap up. Some sort of “and it all just magically worked out…” I’m glad to know there is more to the story.
I will have to agree with a few other reviews, there is A LOT of ‘A’s’ in this books. while the book does provide a really good reference for genealogy, worlds and some translations. I had to screen cap these pages and refer back to them on my phone more than I would have liked while reading the book. It pulled me out of the story a few times trying to connect everything I was reading. The pronunciation guide was a fantastic edition to have.
There was a few spelling grammar errors, at one point a random s was just in the middle of a sentence. This didn’t so much bother, but I’m curious about how many people read this book and didn’t catch that.
Would I read this book again? Probably not. Will I read the next one, yes I will.
