"We took off with the Flying Nun. But we were young. And we were on earth, heading home to Brooklyn."
“I know now that what is tragic isn’t the moment. It is the memory.”
I absolutely adore Jacqueline Woodson books on audio. The narration is always supurb. So when I saw ANOTHER BROOKLYN on the Lucky Day shelf through the library I immediately downloaded it.
Woodson's writing has this deep, melodic prose that comes alive when spoken. This story was both positively beautiful and absolutely heartbreaking. It was gorgeous. It's a slim book, one where I felt like every word and every paragraph counted.
Previously read on audio and recommend- BROWN GIRL DREAMING & RED AT THE BONE.

Woodson is just a master of her craft.
At times I was like "I'm far too stupid for this" and at other times I was gasping because the words she chose just cut straight through to the heart.
Concise, specific, and yet so easy to relate to and find your way into. Just incredible.

Woodson' writing gets better with each new endeavor. Loved this story of girls and growing up with the burden of family destiny and expectations.

I am always touched by woodson’s writing style but I did not like this as much as “red at the bone”. I wanted to feel more connected to the characters, especially given how important the girls are to august. nonetheless, there are a lot of moments that are tremendously sad yet written with a gentle touch that eases you into the situation. the brooklyn setting is vivid (like out of spike lee’s “do the right thing”) and speaks to the culture of the time.

Poetry. Beautiful and moving. Felt incredibly immersed. The writing was beautiful. Such a great insight into being a little black girl in America during the 70s. I love reading xx
