I had hope that this one would be better until I realized I was 90% done the book and literally nothing of interest had happened. Felt unnecessarily long.

I fear this book has fallen prey to sequel syndrome, as this was all vibes but no plot, simply bridging from book one to three. Yes there's character development and we meet a new player in Cyrus but at times I longed for some more action within its descriptive storytelling. I also forget what happened in book one and this did not recount enough that I ever truly remembered.

I realized this will be a YA love triangle. No. Either get with all of them or none.

A fun read to carry on the world but nothing actually happens tbh. I can see why a lot of people were disappointed with this book because if I waited a whole for this I would be too.
Writing was quite good in certain places- it caught me off guard- still not too sure what I think of the "flowery" writing as people describe it.
It was a fast read for me personally, but the pacing is weird cause all the events occur over literally 1-2 days.
A lot of people also hated this book because Mafi makesKamran incredibly hatable out of nowhere- but to be honest, I didn't hate him as much as everyone else- he was just quite annoying in this book compared to how likeable he was in book 1.

I was so happy to pick up this next installment from the library on its release day! Tahereh Mafi is such a pro- truly goddess level fantasy writing. You can sit back and just enjoy the book trusting there is a perfect overarching story, but savoring its delivery in tiny decadent bites. Despite the cliffhanger chapter endings, I read this one slowly like eating a rich desert! Time passes in real time in this world - so the 500 pages of This Woven Kingdom take place over 3 days. And this beauty? 400 pages in 1 day!
“Kamran looked back as they vanished into the inky skies, wondering, with a quiver in his heart, who he might be if he ever returned.”
A quiet, world-building and character developing 2nd installment in one of my new favorite fantasy worlds!
