I don’t know who I was before this book and I don’t care. THIS??? Was everything. The drama, the danger, the yearning, the morally grey royalty who’s emotionally wrecked but hot while doing it?? CYRUS?? I’m looking directly at YOU.
Tahereh Mafi has me in a CHOKEHOLD. The writing??? Ridiculously gorgeous. The story?? Twisted and addicting. I was on edge the ENTIRE time — sobbing one second, screaming the next, and rereading lines like they were the last words I’d ever see.

The first few hundred pages convinced me this series was a dud, but then it got kind of good… but then I got frustrated again. It’s just too wordy. Oh my god some paragraphs are so useless you can skip them and only miss over-explanations on scenery. I guess some people call this “purple prose.” It was too much and detracted from the story.
If I didn’t already buy the third book I would probably just give up on the series but since I have third I’ll read it.

The most interesting thing about this series is how fast paced it is. I’m so interested in how the author writes detailed moments of each day without failing to amaze us. 4.5 ⭐️

Like the last one… I just feel like nothing really happened? I’m hooked for some reason and I love the characters but like the plot has barely developed and over 800 pages total have been read…
