4.5 stars for me. I really kind of loved this book in the way I love Rainbow Rowell. I’m deducting a half star because of a couple of subplots that seemed left unfinished. Very good otherwise.

This was such a slog to get through.. was very close to DNFing. The unnatural dialog, the way they hit it off without any build up, and Penny not being a very kind daughter or friend and the supporting characters both having to confront her at the end made the book so annoying. One of those books where the cover art is the best part.

When you get really mad at a book for being over...

This was the full teen romance package.

I've had this book on my shelf foreeeeeeverrrrrr and I've always loved the cover.  Maybe this is too YA-ish for me? Not sure, I didn't love any of the characters which made it difficult to relate/become invested in the story/etc. Even though Penny and Celeste were East Asian, I honestly could have read them as white characters as the story lacked a cultural dimension. The dynamic between the "friends" was a little odd and shallow too...
