had good insight.
also some very binary thinking within it and very 'positive vs negative' based.
some of it seems like extreme magical thinking to me
other parts i can identify with

Right from the start I found myself hi lighting every sentence! So I put down the pen and decided to just book mark important pages. That didn't work either... Every page dog-eared. Incredible info. My only dislike is too many personal examples.

Too strange for my liking.

The author gets into a lot of pseudoscience here that I don’t subscribe to. And most of the examples he provides of the letting go technique at work seem to be completely made up. But the core teaching seems very practical and effective.

An essential read for anyone who feels controlled by their emotions, and needs to learn how take control over them. Discover how to let go of self-destructive thought processes to improve our quality of life! You will learn the reason why we suppress our emotions instead of accepting them to start processing them, how to handle negative thoughts, to take responsibility for our actions, and ways to gain a more positive mindset/outlook on life.
Basically I really needed to read this, and it has helped me! But, a book can only do so much. It’s how you apply the skills learned.

4 Stars

At various points, I could go either way with this book. I could nitpick it to death to make it seem like a one-star book. Or I could focus on the truly inspirational and life-changing sections, giving it five stars. But ultimately, especially after reading the author's personal story at end, it feels counterintuitive to rate (i e., judge) this or any other book.

cristinahawke's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 70%

Interesting book.. but it's pretty far out there. I did find the different emotional power levels to be a helpful mental model, and I think I will take that with me moving forward. But on the other hand, I felt like I was waiting and waiting for him to tell us how to actually "let go." A lot of the examples felt too magical to be true and overall I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. Who knows! I am fairly spiritual and I definitely believe in higher order things that we don't understand, but this was too woo-woo for me.
