I don’t know what I love most about this series, the mystery itself or the influence of the Ojibwe culture. I love the character development within the series. The mystery isn’t fluffy and I didn’t suspect the truth until right before it was revealed. The audio narrator was pretty good, but not quite as smooth as the first book.

While the pace is fast with twists and turns, the peace of The People is ever present.

I got up early to finish this book today before work, so obviously I love this series.

William Kent Krueger does such a fantastic job of sucking me into his novels with a strong sense of place, keeping me intrigued with the mystery plotline, and captivating me with his characters. I was propelled to finish the novel because I needed to know what happened with the mystery element (obviously), but I also needed to know what the next step was going to be for Cork & Jo's struggling marriage. Krueger wraps up what he needs to wrap up at the end of this novel and keeps other elements of the subplots open ended for future installments in this series.

More than anything else, Krueger makes me love Minnesota - my second home - even more. I need to go to the Boundary Waters at some point in my life (preferably soon...but in the summer) after reading this novel. I'm not a camper by any means, but Krueger made me want to camp in the Boundary Waters. That's saying something.

On to book #3 in this amazing series...

Ooh! This one was intense! A manhunt takes place in the Boundary Waters and nobody is clear on who are the good guys and who are the bad guys until almost the very end. The saga of Cork O’Connor continues in this delightfully action packed novel.

Absolutely love Krueger's descriptions of Northern MN. It is one of my favorite places on the planet and I can picture myself there with every page of his novels. The mystery is solid as well although I pegged the culprit about halfway through. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
