Good premise, but very predictable and cliche.
I lost count at the number of times that ‘tears pooled in his or her eyes’.
If you want a story about a couple destined to be together after he writes a book about them meeting, and them finding one another again after nine years - watch the Before Trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

What an amazing book! It came highly recommended from a trusted reader friend and I have to admit it is one of the best books I've read recently. The story of Jack and Ellie's teen romance and how they rekindled the romance after a long hiatus is a second chance type of story.
Most of the story takes place in the early 1950's when Ellie spends her summer in the small Tennessee lake town when Jack has been raised. Naturally, there are a few antagonists who interfere with the budding teen romance. As is typical, the antagonists are not the only obstacles they must overcome during their on-again, off-again relationship through the years. There are a few teary moments in the HEA story of Jack and Ellie - the mockingbirds.

Can you rewrite the stars? I very much enjoyed this book as it was as comforting as a blackberry cobbler and ice cream. Gave me the same vibes as a Nicholas Sparks book as it was a good old fashioned love story set in the south. The characters were well crafted and you felt their emotions and all their actions were intentional, whether it was good or bad.

When the summer winds down and Ellie has to return to Indiana, Jack doesn’t want to let her go but misunderstandings and interferences block their chances at a future long term.
12 years later, Ellie receives a package in the mail from Jack with a letter and a copy of his new bestselling book about his life and most importantly their summer together. As the memories surface and new details are revealed, can these two reconnect and ignite that old spark or has their fate already been written in the stars?
This was a very cute and engaging second chance romance of young love that burned bright but faded over time with war and miscommunications. I loved how the book was broken into sections and how you got flashbacks of interactions of what caused them to drift apart. Jack was such a strong and loyal man and Ellie was so driven and focused. I enjoyed how they seemed to bring out the best in each other.
A perfect book to read on the back porch while watching the sunset and drinking an iced tea.

I enjoyed how Turner flowed between past and present almost seamlessly. I loved the small town romance feel to it. And I really enjoyed the take of love at first sight. Making them go through trials and tribulations before they choose each other was relatable.
