The plot of this book is about Noel going through a crisis, and having to make a lot of big decisions about her future. A lot of changes have happened recently, and they’re forcing Noel to take an introspective look at herself. This book is a journey, and is relatable for people who have possibly been through some major changes in their life. I enjoyed reading about Noel’s journey and seeing her growth through this novel.

The characters…. Noel is our main character, and I hate to say this, but she’s not very likable. She doesn’t really take any responsibility for her actions until the end of the book, which is the growth I talked about, and I did like to see it. But she’s a bit insufferable throughout the book. Super negative, not very nice, and a bit boring. It’s hard to root for her, to be honest.

Grace is a side character that knew Noel’s father, is very classy, and a voice of wisdom. I really enjoyed her character, and would read a book about her. She was interesting, and I enjoyed her sage wisdom!

Wendy works at the bookstore, and has for ages. She was very close with Noel’s dad, so she doesn’t care for Noel very much at first. She especially hates that Noel wants to sell the bookstore. She’s also, a much more likable character than Noel, so you don’t really blame her for not liking our heroine.

There’s also, a guy. He’s an ex-boyfriend that reconnects with Noel, and is very charming and sweet. Noel is pretty mean to him at first, but of course that icy heart thaws by the end.

The writing was easy enough to follow along to, and I enjoyed it.

Overall, the book was decent. I wanted to see how the story would end, and enjoyed the growth of our main character.

The Noel Letters by Richard Paul Evans
Book starts out with synopsis of the story and about the author along with other works by the author.
Dedication and prologue where Noel reminiscences about her childhood.
She grew up without a mother for so many of her younger years but she had a neighbor male friend Dylan and his mom always treated her like one of the family.
She is able to do a lot of what she wants, dancing, plays and writing. She ends up with a job in NYC so she leave Utah to pursue that, meets a guy and they marry. She had not invited her father.
She is often mean and she loves her job at the publishing company. When she is summoned home because her father is dying she heads off at the end of October but she is too late. She also learns her roommate wants her to leave because she is reuniting with her ex.
After the funeral she is able to understand a bit of her father's life with help from the attorney and the bookstore manager.
She learns in time that she is also been fired from her job but feels ok with that because she now has the store to run although she knows nothing about that side of books.
Holiday crush time for the store and they put the hours in to find a packed and busy daily life at the shop. Dylan shows up with his sympathies for her loss and she spends time with him and learns about his life with his daughter.
Love hearing of the downtime they are able to enjoy with one another.
Love how this book got its title and won't spoil it for you here. Noel gets so many treasured things of her fathers.
Things turn around for her and she wants out of the relationship, out of the bookstore and the NYC job is hers again.
Special people in her Father's life help her realize the truths of her mother's car crash and their association with her father. Love hearing of the butterfly connection.
I will ever rarely cry but once during this book I could feel the tears well up behind my eyes, so emotional. Now she's not sure which way to go, stay or go...
Have read many of the author's works and truly enjoyed them as they pull at your heartstrings for moments passed by. Love quotes by others at the start of each chapter.
Acknowledgement and about the author are included at the end.
I received this review book from Gallery Books via Net Galley and this is my honest opinion.

I read a Richard Paul Evans book every year during Christmas. I like them because they are quick reads (usually in one sitting), they have important messages, and everything ends happily ever after. This one... Wow!... It touched me to my core. It was absolutely beautiful and full of deeper meaning. After the Christmas Box, I think it is my all-time favorite, Richard Pail Evans novel. It was beautiful.

Richard Paul Evans can flat out tell a story. I struggled a little at the start of this one feeling Noel’s character was just too unlikable, but as she continues to self-sabotage, the reader continues to pull for her. Like most, if not all of his novels, the ending was perfection.

Another great story from RPE.

This is pretty much a Hallmark Christmas movie in book form. It’s sweet, slightly predictable book. My little local book club chose it this month. It’s a sweet story but not my preference.

This was a perfect cheesy Christmas movie in the form of a book. A very fast read with a predictable happy ending, but also emotion and struggling with understand your parents. I read it by the first fire of the season and embraced the feel of the holidays!

One of my favorite quotes was, “it was a constant in the magical thinking of my childhood.” It made me wonder about all the things I thought were true, but were just a child’s magical thinking.

Just what I needed

This story makes your heart full. The main character takes a turn for the worse in life just as her 16 year estranged father requests she come for a final visit on his deathbed. Dark moments from her past kept her away and she walks into a whole realm of truths and mysteries and finds more than she could have hoped returning home. Speckled with literary quotes and some heavy words of wisdom this story is an adventure I'm happy I went along on.
