For now all the story is like a circle without an end. Unexpected and at the same time expected ending of the book which (I hope) would lead us to a happy ending in the last two parts.

This book picks up with Rose in Moscow, trying to find and kill her Strigoi-turned lover, Dimitri. On the way, after the attack on St. Vlad's and the journey to Dimitri she becomes a killing machine, adorning the mark that signifies she's killed too many Strigoi to count. Damn Rose, who knew she'd get to this huh?

She leaves Lissa, which we thought we'd never see her do, and Lissa was just as shocked as we were. Rose has it all planned out though, with the connection she shares with Lissa, she frequently checks up, trusting Christian to take care of her. Adrian helps her financially and she seems set. Except for the fact she's on her way to kill her lover and actually ends up at his family's home. That's tough like wow.

I will admit, this wasn't my favourite book out of the series, it seemed dull at points and just dragged on. Obviously for plot and story sake I kept pulling through and finally finished it, but it was hard. Rose and Dimitri reconnect and lets just say Strigoi Dimitri is scary. Holy crappers. Rose has to find the power and strength in her heart to finally kill him once and for all, can she do it? Who knows, Rose is capable of anything.

Liked this book more than I thought I would! After the last 3 books, I had thought there could be no more. I thought it would be a boring 500 page book of Rose hunting Dimitri-but there were so many more things that happened, and characters integral to furthering the plot. You learn more about Spirit use, more about Dimitri's family, and about the alchemists. Stayed up half the night reading this because I got hooked!

Listening to the audiobook really illuminates just how much TELLING this book does. It sounds like “I did this, saw this, did this, looked over here, heard this…”

That’s my biggest feedback - something I didn’t realize when I was younger and reading the first few books - that the writing style is very juvenile and unrefined.

The pacing was slow. I wish the book had started about 1/4th of the way through and just cut out the first fourth that felt like meaningless exposition.
