The plot and world are interesting, it’s just written like something you might find on Wattpad.

I didn’t expect to like this book, but man was I surprised. The humor, the tension, and the mystery sucked me in a spit me out wanting more! I loved the slow burn and the danger in this book. 10/10 would recommend!

I’m a sucker for a slow-burn enemies to lovers book, which is exactly what this is.

Rowan is a college student in a mountain of debt, so when she gets kidnapped by a demon who mistakes her for his arch enemy she is thrust into a world of demons which gives her the opportunity to learn who killed her mother.

I really enjoyed this book, I love how Rowan was written, I love the funny lines about her anxiety and she’s just so… human and relatable. Then obviously you have to have the morally grey, dark demon to balance it all out. Orion is just that.

The “world” wasn’t huge so there wasn’t a need for world building, but the scene descriptions were on point. I could (pretty easily) envision the scene.

The spice in this book is less spicy than I expected, it’s one scene and it is pretty tame. It almost felt forced because of the slow burn lust between them, but I would have been way happier if that one scene didn’t happen. I’m not sure it had to happen for the story to progress how it did.

I also felt that the secondary characters (the king, Nama, Lydia etc.) were incredibly 2D which made their actions really predictable which did take away from the story a little. I know it’s only a 300 page book so there’s only so much you can cram in there but it’s like the author was using them to try and make Orion seem more desirable? It wasn’t necessary and just made for a predictable climax.

With that being said, while the climax was predictable, the ending was beautiful and I didn’t see it coming at all. I loved it and can’t wait to see where the story goes next.

Was this book revolutionary? No. Did I enjoy it anyway? Definitely.
