I didn't really like this one. Seems like she's a completely different author with these books. It had its moments where I laughed out loud, but still.. not as good as Plum. Still going to read the next one though.

I was absolutely not expecting the level of "wacky romp" this book delivers when I first started listening, but it was pretty easy to adjust to that and to shift my expectations accordingly, so the low rating isn't due to that. In fact, it's mainly due to the creepy dubcon vibe that runs throughout the book, with the hero/love interest who insists the heroine means yes when she says no, and repeatedly gropes her when she's told him to keep his hands to himself. Ick.

Janet Evanovich typical fare, except Alex Barnaby is an auto mechanic from Baltimore.

Not quite up to Stephanie Plum standards, but still quite good. I'm very amused by Barney - a girl in pink, who knows her way around a car engine. That's my kind of girl! Plus, she's a great big sister. When her brother calls in the dead of night, in trouble, she doesn't just sit back and wait, she flies from Baltimore down to Miami to find out what's going on, and to help him out. While there, she meets Hooker, a NASCAR driver. This guy is a trip. I don't even know how to describe him, but he made me giggle. Add in some cigar-rolling, gun-toting chicas and then try and figure out who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. Or is it, who are the bad guys and who are the worse guys? You choose.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book. I’ve read the Plum series more than once, but this book was just disappointing. And sexist. And boring. It lacks the redeeming qualities that the Plum books have. I didn’t feel much for either Alex Barnaby or NASCAR guy. They were both mostly annoying. The mystery itself was a bit meh, and the ending was more action movie than book.

I had heard a lot about Janet Evanovich and decided to read one of her books. It was a quick read and moved very quickly. It was a good mystery and some surprises but not what I expected. A lot of typical saying and much of it sounded like a script for a teen mystery. Am glad I read it and her true fans will love it.

3.5* silly but entertaining.
