Another great novel by Janet Evanovich. This book had me laughing out loud. From the very beginning, the romance between Barney and Hooker sparked my interest and kept my attention. Their interactions were so unusual and funny I couldn't put this book down. I absolutely loved it
I didn't care for this one as much as the Stephanie Plum series. This is the first novel featuring Alexandra Barnaby (Barney). She receives a late night phone call from her brother and ends up flying to Miami to find him. While in Miami, she meets Sam Hooker, a NASCAR driver, who is seeking her brother because he "borrowed" Sam's boat without permission. Things become complicated when there is a sunken treasure of gold bars and a warhead from the cold war era and several parties interested in obtaining said treasure. The action is pretty good once it gets going.
I found nothing to like about this plot, the characters or the story.
This was sort of "Stephanie Plum-lite", right down to the tomboyish main character (Barney), obviously forward love interest ("Nascar Guy" Sam), and crazy sidekicks (gay best friend and Cuban cigar rollers). And I think that’s why I didn’t love it. While you expect a certain voice and style in a Janet Evanovich book, this was a little too copycat for my tastes. Though I confess that I did like Sam, who was what you would get if Ranger and Morelli had a baby. I’ll probably read the second one if I feel like something light I can read in a day, but it won’t be something I’ll rush to get to.

I found a paperback of Metro Girl on summer holiday in Cyprus in 2006, and I fell in love with the book. Since then I’ve basically read it again and again each summer, and enjoyed the story every time I read it. I love this book so much that I even gave it as a gift to several of my friends and will always recommend it if someone asks for a fun romantic mystery!
