Never has a book title captured my feeling so well after ending it; I am Ruined. The last two hundred pages of this book had me in a constant state of anxiety and anger, while simultaneously crying happy tears and being hopeful. John Gwynne knows how to weave a multi-layered story with way more characters and plot lines than is advisable, and ace it. Just when you think you figure it out, boom something happens that has one flabbergasted. The handling of good versus evil, the politics, the found family trope, the chosen one(s) trope, betrayals and hope, all of it was so well done. This series is easily becoming one of my favorites I’ve ever read and I can’t wait to see how it concludes in the next book.

Liked it fine, more than fine even, just found myself zoning out and simply not caring enough to rewind and see what I missed. Felt like the slump book of the series. Having a hard time staying invested in all but a couple characters especially when they add someone just to kill them off. The Stranger things problem basically.
