I think I loved this even more than my students and they were giving it 11/5 Stars...they aren’t the best at math but needless to say they enjoyed!😆

We read this as a stand-alone! Many like myself had read the Giver but not the other two! The raw emotions and need for family gave me chills! The depths of what a mother will do to find her child! This story goes through different settings and we meet many people along the way! There were shocks, twists, and turns! The writing made me feel all of Claire’s emotions! Sometimes I couldn’t help but cry with her! I love how it comes full circle with Jonas and Gabe!

My only complaints:
I want an epilogue!
I wish there had been more Einar😘

this book (as well as the whole series besides the Giver) is tragically slept on. in this finale, it all comes together - as it all should in a finale. in addition to tying up loose ends, the story itself is powerful - capturing the devotion of a mother to her child.

Son is a very interesting read. This book is a fulfilling conclusion to the Giver series. My only criticism is that the ending was slightly anticlimactic and was possibly a little rushed. Overall I am wholly contented with the last book in this amazing series, that neatly ties the other three books (The Giver, Gathering Blue and The Messenger) together.

Ugh. I regret needing to read the "conclusion" to this quartet. Son started out promising enough. In Son readers are taken back to the community Jonas and Gabe escaped from, where we meet Claire. I really enjoyed this part. I really felt for Claire and what she went through as a birth mother. It was well developed, and I thought to my self "finally. This will be good, and there's going to be a conclusion!" The story went on to follow Claire's escape from the community, and her life in a new community. I enjoyed reading about her new life for the most part. I felt like she was going to be a really strong character, and was going to make this incredible journey to find Gabe.

Unfortunately, after she makes it up the mountain, she just becomes a background character. The rest of the story follows Gabe and Jonas, where it becomes dull and rushed. There's nothing very climatic after that point. The one final climatic scene was fairly lame. I thought there was going to be some grand message for a conclusion regarding all of these powers and journeys, but it was just an empty scene leading up to "The End."

I loved The Giver, but the rest of the series fell short in so many ways. They've honestly tarnished my love for The Giver, because now I know that everything that follows it in the quartet is just pointless. I haven't been this disappointed with a series conclusion in a while.
