How to Succeed in Witchcraft by Aislinn Brophy

Brophy has a new fan! I loved their writing style, and the world is so fascinating. I would love to see more works in this world.
I definitely thought the major revalation about Mr. B would come sooner, but I suppose it makes sense when you think about the realistic time it would take an underage girl to realize what happened.

I also loved the budding relationship between Shay and Ana. Shay is very awkward in an endearing way. It felt very much like a first teenage relationship. I'd love to see more of both characters.

Listened to this on a roadtrip with my roomie, we enjoyed the book quite a bit. We did think that the main character made annoying/frustrating decisions for a lot of the book, though that improved towards the end as miscommunications were cleared up and she started being more open-minded. The books’ magic system was very similarly affected by the same systems of oppression and power as in our reality and this drives most of the book, which as a reflection of society is all well and accurate, but I was hoping for something not quite so on the nose (just bc I wasn’t looking for that from this book doesn’t mean it’s a fault in it though!). I appreciated the romance and the family-dynamics most.

Found this book super slow to start and overall fairly boring. The teen drama was so overplayed and the voices done by the narrator took away from my enjoyment.
