Beautiful Prey

4.5 AVERAGE

This was one of the best psychological, romance thrillers I’ve ever read! I seriously could not put it down.

Eve’s family was slaughtered on her birthday while she hid from the killer. But she saw it happen, and the scary, masked man who did it. Almost six years later, she’s in college working on her masters in criminal psychology. She decides it’s time to meet this man face to face and write about him as her thesis. She’s worked up the nerve to see him in the mental facility he is in and hopes to learn more about him. Emery is the man who did it. He still wears the mask to this day and barely speaks.

There is a whole lot more to this story. And the writing is so good. I’m just sad it’s a duet and I have to wait to see what happens next. This story will haunt you, make you cry, make you anxious, make you scared. One of the best books I’ve read this year.

The spicy scenes are there but you’d have to work for it.

It’s griping and thrilling. It’s dark and atmospheric. It keeps me going until 3am in the morning. I had to know what happens next for Emery and Eve.

Tho, I had to say I wanted to see Eve character to be more in love with Emery. Also, overall, there is something unnatural about their characters. Like I get how they become who they are but still, along the way, their characters development wasn’t as convincing as I had hoped.

It was a really good read. It reads like a dark thriller romance. Love all the unhinged-ness. Can’t wait for book 2!

Oh. My. Goodness. I absolutely devoured this book and read it in one day. From the very first chapter I was invested and I had to continue reading. The development of the main characters, the story and the emotional rollercoaster I went on—amazing. The MMC is definitely not someone you should love considering he’s a killer but it’s hard not to. The twists and turns were perfect in every way and there were times I was literally holding my breath. The book ends on a cliffhanger and I’m dying for the second book.
•••••••
Eve’s family was murdered by Emery. And now she’s wanting answers as to why. Taking on the role of his therapist she gains access to meetings with Emery. She wanted revenge. To hurt him like he hurt her. But the more she meets with him the more secrets are uncovered about her life and his. Her determination for closure ends up turning into something more complicated and extremely dangerous. But for Eve it’s not about justice for her family anymore. It’s digging deeper to find out what truly happened to make Emery a monster.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Beautiful Prey grabbed me from the very first line and held me through the end (well, the cliffhanger at the end, that is).
Along with Eve, I felt pummeled by different emotions: terror, anxiety, grief, confusion, horror, and more. My heart broke with every discovery she made, while I also felt torn on what she should do next. Emery was a puzzle I wanted to solve as well.
Book 1 of the Unmasked Duet books is a dark romance, heavier on the dark, but yes, the romance is still there. The love we witness is taboo, but it's hard not to cheer for that love.
I can't wait to see what happens next when book 2 releases in January 2025.

I don't even know where to begin..

At no point did I know where this book was going to lead, and I absolutely loved the ride it took me on. The characters were so well written, and the story was so well thought out. I very literally spent most of my time on the edge of my seat and audibly gasping.

Emery and Eve both have an interconnected traumatic past and find themselves in a twisted inmate x therapist, enemies to lovers, relationship (I use that term very loosely). Their obsession with each other was wild, and every time I thought they would get their hea, something else happened and changed the trajectory of their story.

This did end on a cliffhanger, which I usually dont mind, but I NEED to know what happens next

Holy shit this book was absolutely amazing!
@loradarcauthor you have written an absolutely phenomenal book.
This is a dark romance and the story follows Eve and Emery. Eve is student writing her thesis and manages to bag herself a job as a therapist for Emery, who murdered her family a few years before. He wears a skull mask to conceal his face as it makes him feel safer. She hid from him when he murdered her family and now she wants revenge, just a different sort of revenge.
But things develop between them and we find out what happened in the past.
This book is so intense and I loved the slow burn of the two characters. There were so many twists and turns and I had no idea where it would go. There are lots of layers to Eve's and Emery's relationship and I was pulled in from the very beginning.
Book 2 is out in January and I don't know if I can wait that long!! I need to know what happens next!
Overall this was a bloody brilliant book, a dark taboo romance and I didn't want the story to end!

wow! this book threw me for a loop. i became more obsessed with this books like Eve did with Emery.

this story sucks you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let go. i will be thinking about this book until the 2nd one comes out because omg!

slow burn, angst, heartbreak, this story has it all. I loved how this story focused so much on the MCs because learning about them in such depth and you get connected to them on such a deep level.

the cliffhanger had me in shambles! i can’t wait to read how Eve and Emery’s story plays out.

“You did a bad thing, didn’t you, Evee?” he said in a tone of laughter. “Bad… bad… little… rabbit,” he growled.”

Man oh man oh man!! This was one heck of a ride and Emery… mhmm mhmm 🔥This book is going in my top 10 books of 2024. The way Eve slowly unraveled and came undone for Emery and they both melded together—UGHHH—I can’t get enough! In my mind, I know it’s wrong for them to be together but my heart, body and soul are singing yes to the choir 😂 Emery may be the Devil of Harper Pointe but he is a 1000% book boyfriend and ain’t nobody stopping my man! Can’t wait to read book two!

Thank you Lora for this opportunity!
