So much shorter than I remembered and a little less relatable now that I’m not also 17 but keeping the 5 stars because I used to love this series sm

Reread it randomly, sure I'd have another perspective as an adult than the teenage me. I didn't realize the extent to which female dhampirs are sexualized in this book. Slut-shaming of multiple female characters is rampant too. Rose's musings on Lissa's mental health are also severely judgmental for a best friend. And don't even get me started on the problematic age difference, although I find it kind of hot (sorry) in this case. Problematic faves, and all that. Doesn't mean I stand for it in real life.
It's what you'd expect from a 2008 novel, but it's still a shame. Not changing the 3-star rating though. Vampires are still in vogue for me I fear lmao.

i didn’t remember the book starting like that. it kind of feels like you’re just dropped into the story.
it’s still entertaining and an interesting concept. i’m not mad about the reread.
but i’m still shocked by the age gap between the romance interest and main character because that’s wild. idk why the author chose to make it so large when she’s still underage?

I was kind of sceptical reading this book because I didn’t want it to feel like a replica of the Twilight Saga. This book far proceeded my expectations and really made it its own world. Definitely recommend
