I loved loved loved this series in high school. Rose and Dimitri still have chemistry greater than most romances I read now. My only regret is that I never figured out how to pronounce ‘strigoi’.

I might have lost brain cells from this, but it was entertaining. This was so dumb, even for YA standards. They're supposed to be seniors in HS, but they almost sounded like middle schoolers to me. It was also extremely predictable. I did like the non-linear timeline that kept the reader in the dark with intermittent flashbacks to "the accident" that gave more clarity as the story went on.

Favorite dumb quote repeated throughout:
"Did he... did he think I was pretty?"

I read these in college when they first came out and decided to re read them to go back to where my love of vampires/YA/series etc started. Because after this series, I read EVERYTHING Richelle Mead put out and I will never forgive all of you for not reading the Gods series (can't remember the name right now but I will).

This book hit just as hard as it did then. Obsessed. Will now be reading them all in between ARC reads. Best decision of 2025.
