Fast-paced, dramatic and surprisingly deep - Vampire Academy was a quick and easy read, and still completely pulled me into it’s world.
Rose is such a fierce, sharp and incredibly loyal protagonist. I loved her attitude from page one. The bond she has with Lissa is the heart of the story right now, their friendship shines at how deep they protect, support and balance each other out. They are complete opposites, but that is what makes them a wonderful pair.
Oh, and let’s not forget about the god. Or in milder words (and names) - Dimitri. The tension, the longing, the undeniable chemistry and understanding of him and Rose. I certainly felt it, and it had me grinning like a teen. Let’s face it. All teen’s have at some point crushed on an elder. That being said, the age gap did make my 27-year-old self raise an eyebrow or two. It is why I wish Rose was written just a few years older, even though I appreciated the moral line the book chose not to cross.
I am intrigued by the magic system - especially Spirit. I am itching to learn more about it. Who can even deny the foreshadowing with Ms. Karp front and center? It sure caught my attention, and I have a feeling things are only going to escalate from here on out.
This book gave me drama, snark, danger and a dash of forbidden romance (luckily shut down for now) - just the kind of start I like in a fantasy series. I am excited to see what chaos ensues in the next one!
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Self harm, Torture
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Bullying, Chronic illness, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Grief, Car accident, Death of parent
medium-paced
I was so annoyed with Rose in the beginning, but she grew on me. I found the vampires quite boring, too me they just felt like humans drinking blood, nothing special. Christian is assfghda and I love Lissa! I can't wait to read the other books and find out where the story goes :)
4.5⭐
This book is a proof that I haven't 100% passed my vampire-with-a-lot-of-teen-angst book era!
When I picked this book, I had low expectations because I didn't think i would still enjoyed this kind of book.
But I was wrong.
I totally enjoyed this one! This book was fun to read!
I love Mead's easy-going writing style and also all new different concepts about vampire! I mean, have you ever heard about a mortal vampire before?
I truly adore Rose-Lissa's friendship! And also reading from Rose's POV was so much fun and entertaining! She's one of my favorite character

This was sooo good in a corny way. So excited to read the rest of the series
I would’ve devoured this book in middle school. Was it worth reading now? Probably not.

I remember how I LOVED this series when I was a teenager, so I decided to re-read since I didn’t remember the plot and it was ok.
Rose’s love interest weirds me out (even though I was soooo for it during the first reading). Loved Christian though, my hero.
