it was mostly enjoyable, but i felt like there were a lot of issues that were just briefly touched on, from transition to transphobia to beauty standards to to absent moms to SA to intimate partner violence. that’s a LOT for less than 300 pages of a graphic novel, so there wasn’t a lot of depth to any of the issues. the story would have been stronger if there had just been one or two main focuses.
“Well if it isn’t the J.K. Rowling of SRHS” LMFAOOOOOOO. I love the irony of Ben telling Mackenzie she doesn’t get to make decisions for Phoebe… you’re almosssssttt there babes
I thought it was okay.
The art's nice and the dialogue is really good for the most part, but the characters are pretty thin, and the energy was more negative than I was expecting - everyone's really mean. This could be a powerful book for some, but it wasn't quite that for me. I thought Mackenzie's arc was good. Magdalene's a talented author, but I wanted to like this more than I did.

That was a bit strange. I'm not sure what I just read. Like the majority of the book was people (girls and boys) saying thing that made me feel weird and want to tell all of them they were wrong and that the two boys with whom she was with see ed like they weren't good and were toxic and really she shouldn't be with them and the advice she was being given was so not good and wasn't making her like a strong girl but I guess the friend who was giving the advice was lost herself and was dealing with being a girl in the world so I get it and at least at the end they finally understood it but it's like all the book they talk about how you have to be a girl and be a certain way and act a certain way around boys but than like in the last 20 pages they tell you thats all not true and it feels weird. Really not the same video as what I've been reading for the last few days so it probably impacted a lot a I felt about it. The thing I put like spoilers aren't really that much spoilers.

A compelling and engaging story. This graphic novel follows Phoebe Zito as she learns how to be a girl and how to decide for herself what being a girl means to her. her journey is realistic and moving, from friends who try to mold her into what they though she should be to boys who don't understand her, I loved following her. Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins for the eARC.
