I listened to this while packing to move, so I definitely missed some parts that were probably important. However, I did enjoy the story and mystery solving! The slow burn was SLOW though, but so rewarding!

4.5 stars - Darkly Addictive and Surprisingly Emotional
Well firstly, I finished this book in just under 24 hours (not bad for 731 pages!)
City of Gods and Monsters completely pulled me in with its gritty atmosphere, morally gray characters, and layered world-building. If you’re into urban fantasy with a darker edge, secret supernatural politics, and just the right amount of slow-burn romance, this book delivers.
The city itself is practically a character, alive with danger, secrets, and tension between gods, monsters, and mortals trying to survive in the cracks. The protagonist is fierce but vulnerable, and the character growth throughout is genuinely satisfying. The relationships, those romantic and otherwise—are complex, messy, and real.
I would say, if you like Sarah J. Maas, Holly Black, or the darker sides of Cassandra Clare, this should be high on your TBR!!

This book is every romantasy cliche thrown into one. It heavily mirrors Crescent City (which fine but it's done in a cringy way) and the MMC being this whole "i'm not a good person but i love you" act is eye rollingly boring. I gave it more than half way
