This is my second book from EJD. My first was One Night, so I expected six all over the place. However this book was nearly the opposite. The through line is the male protagonist who is passionate and driven to darkness by his love for a woman.

This book had some parts that were very slow to me. It picked up at the end.

I liked it but I didn't love it. I've always been a fan of EJD but the last few novels I read seem like a different writer. 300 pages in and I still couldn't form a physical description of some of the main characters. I understood where the story was going but the journey didn't excite me the way many of his books do.

This was a very interesting read from EJD because it was totally different from his other novels, which is a good thing. This book was definitely a page turner and I was completely entertained from start to finish. I couldn't put the book down because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. This book is filled with drama, action, a little bit of humor and some unexpected twists. I also really like how EJD weaves in characters from his previous novels. I gave the book 4 stars because while it was a great read, I didn't think it was as good as the Gideon series. Also, I felt a little surprised by the ending because I thought there was going to be some sort of climax at the end, so I felt that the book fell short in that area. Overall, this was a great read and I would definitely recommend.

I love EJD but I'm over this format. All sex no real plot. I read the entire thing hoping that the story would gain some speed. I was wrong.

Got it back from the library, so I can finish up. Story has gotten better, but I still don't care for James or Regina.

It was okay. Interesting. Kinda like cotton candy...melt in your mouth.

I picked up this book because I wanted to read a romance novel written by a black man. I was expecting black characters and black love, but from what I can tell every character in the book was white and foreign. Then the story itself was crazy, it was all sex, drugs, and videotape, which inevitably led to murder. Not one ounce of romantic love. But if this book is indicative of Dickey’s writing style, then here is what I learned from a black male romance writer: the writing is extremely descriptive. Like, I now know the makes, model, and engines of several high end foreign cars. The writing is blunt and explicit he is telling readers exactly what is happening and what parts are being used, nothing is subtle or left to the imagination. Scenes move quickly, but because of the detail it’s a long read. However he providers with a complete story which I appreciate, but I doubt I will pick up another book of his, this was not for me.

When a video hits the Internet and goes viral, it's a wrap. Screenwriter James Thicke is married to movie actress Regina Baptiste. During the filming of his latest script starring his wife, a sex tape is released. Regina is caught in an accidental fuck with co-star Johnny Handsome. James's first reaction is to attack Johnny Handsome, then go on the run.

Under the identity of "Varg Veum," James lands in a ghetto apartment building full of characters and nosy neighbors. Mr. Chet Holder is an older man that immediately latches on to James like a schoolboy meeting the new kid in class. Sweet Isabel is a poised British woman that sees through the lies James tells. Patrice Evans is a hot adulteress mess. Another EJD character, Driver from Drive Me Crazy, plays a supporting role as the loyal employee of James.

There are plenty of books on the market that deal with a cheating spouse, but Eric Jerome Dickey puts a fresh spin on infidelity when James Thicke finds out his spouse his cheating along with the rest of the world on YouTube. James Thicke is an accomplished screenwriter married to actress, Regina Baptiste. Dickey writes a tale about how one man reacts when something that is only supposed to be an illusion actually happens.

Thicke is not the type of man to wait for the hoopla and hype to die down; he seeks revenge while the story is still front page news. Dickey writes of man that fights back hard and writes his story in such a manner that the reader can visualize the words coming to life. Dickey’s use of metaphors, his use of secondary characters and storylines, and his edge all contribute to an unforgettable adventure!

An Accidental Affair was an unpredictable and quick read. Eric Jerome Dickey is definitely in a class of his own when it comes to storytelling and writing a complete story. It’s refreshing to have EJD back on the scene!
