Until about halfway through this book I probably would've rated it as 3.5 stars but after reaching the halfway point things REALLY picked up and I COULDNT stop reading.
The visual I had of the house was beautiful and Margaret so nonchollantly moving through an absolutely terrifying description of what was happening in the house was almost terrifyingly funny???

Great book, didn't love the ending. Felt like there was potential for more.

I enjoyed how different this book seemed from the beginning and the underlying theme that you find out as the book goes on. The idea of a woman going ‘eh, I can live with it’ to the idea of ghosts felt outlandish but at the same time relatable to me. Although if I had that horror in my basement I’d be packing my bags immediately.
I also loved the gradual thought that maybe this narrator wasn’t as reliable as you thought, only to have it come full circle that somehow she had suffered similarly or enough that this was doable for her. The author does make a very obvious parallel to the abuse she suffered in her relationship and the horrors of the house but I think that it’s a fun thing to not have to dive too in depth about on such a quick read.

I liked the take on the haunted house. The main character really tries to make it work with the ghosts, which is much different from most haunted house books. This wasn’t scary for me, but creepy and kept me engaged.

Well thought out, funny, and genuinely scary.

5/5 ⭐️ audiobook!!

This book has a little bit of everything: suspense, humor, + I was even a little emotional at the end.

At times it gave me insidious vibes + the narrator did so good that I felt like I was watching a horror movie play out in my head - I totally would watch a movie adaptation of this book!

If you’re looking for a fun (but TW: this is gory at times) thriller to kick off your spooky season tbr, definitely recommend this one!
