This book was good and spooky! I actually got a little scared at times with the Master man in the basement torturing kids (which is like kind of iconic behavior cuz kids suck) but then when all the ghosts teamed up together at the end?? Ew. Not a cute look. But at least a bunch of cops died #acab

I listened to the audiobook and it was amazing! The narrator brought out both the humor and horror of the book. I knew this was a haunted house story prior to starting it, but it’s so much for than that. I loved the themes of motherhood and just what Margaret would go through to keep her daughter safe. The way the story was told was great too, with the flashbacks to the past while trying to connect it to what was happening in the present. Definitely kept me guessing! The last 2 chapters were my favorite, so brutal and had me holding my breath as the tension escalated. I really enjoyed this book, highly recommend!
Wow. Not my normal go to genre but really enjoyed the haunted house/mixed with dark humor vibes. The end got a little much for me as far as the gore and the storyline but the majority of the book I really enjoyed!
I went into this pretty blind, having only read a small blurb in a list of recent releases, but that had caught my eye and I was intrigued. That said, I had no idea what I was actually in for with this one. After a couple chapters, I wasn't sure if I would like it or not, but I kept reading. As I did, it started to grow on me. Eventually I thought I had caught onto the "twist," but the author rather pulled the rug out from under me as soon as I thought I had things figured out, which was really fun.
This book is an interesting blend, as it's fundamentally horror but it's written quite humorously due to the main character's personality. Layered in with that is quite a bit of heavier and darker subject matter. I wasn't surprised at all to see that the author works in a psychology field, once I hit the ending and read the short biography about her.
Overall it's a very intriguing read, with a bit of a fresh twist to a typical haunted house story. I struggled a bit at times to get through it, but other spots in the book had me staying up late to read. Time well spent in the September House.
