Ugh, this was a slog. Disappointing honestly, I was very excited about this book - it sounded intriguing. But no. It’s about family trauma, and grief, and the cycles of abuse more than the actual horror. In fact, the horror was frightening in how mundane it was. I get that it was supposed to be a tonal thing. It just did not hit for me.

Honestly my feelings on this book are a little all over the place. On one hand I thought it started off REALLY slow and I could never figure out what was even happening, but on the other hand once it picked up I couldn’t stop reading. The writing style is addicting and easy to read, also pairing it with the audiobook made the whole experience even better. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting. I came here for a scary story and left with a life lesson. As a whole, I do recommend this story and I think it’s perfect for spooky season!

I liked it, didn't love and wasn't totally hooked. I was going to be super mad if the one "twist" was actually how it ended but I'm glad it wasn't!! Got me ready for spooky season
