The first book in this series, Fool, is one of my all time favorite books. This book? Supremely meh. I love me some Christopher Moore, but I think he's done this idea to death. Pocket of Dogsnogging should retire.

I love Christopher Moore. I'll admit he suited me more when being irreverent was something I was still trying to cultivate -- as opposed to now when it is simply a character trait -- but I still enjoy his turns of phrase. His studied irreverence is a good match for Shakespeare in general and AMND in particular. Give this one a go. I listened to it and the narrator, Euan Morton, was delightful. Excellent performance.

This was a silly book. The only reason I stayed with it was that Christopher Moore can turn a phrase like few others. Would that he turned his prodigious powers to a plot worthy of him. Even though I gave it two stars, I don’t think folks should avoid anything Moore writes.

A bit more roughshod than Fool or Serpent, but still fun!

Bit odd, *very* raunchy (Shakespeare would be proud!). Not sure how well I liked the big reveal at the end, but it was good fun.

I didn't feel like I was missing much information by not having read the other Pocket books.

Often, when reading a book, the reader is taken to another land, another place, and/or another time. When reading a book by Christopher Moore, the reader is transported there through the literary version of a giant waterslide; it's slick, occasionally disorienting, generally colorful, and thoroughly exhilarating.

Shakespeare for Squirrels is no different. A reimagining of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, mixed with a large dollop of The Maltese Falcon, this book takes Pocket to Greece where he gets to snog some fairies and solve a murder mystery.

I slept through most of Serpent of Venice so I was leary about another book with Pocket. This one held my attention enough so that I might have to revisit Serpent.... thank you Mr Moore (Lamb and Stupidest Angel are still my favorites)

A bawdy tale to say the least, but clearly done with love and knowledge of Shakespeare’s canon. I enjoy low status characters taking the wind out of more high status sails through word play, insult, and general silliness. If you know MSND then you will know the cast of the play, but certainly not the ending!
