It took me forever to finally read this book after it was recommended to me repeatedly. Dirt bikes? pass. Trailer trash? pass. Give me some elves or vampires or psychopaths etc. but dirt bike-riding trailer park boys? NAH.
I was so wrong. So, so very wrong.
I fell in love with Maddox and Devon, despite their...or maybe because of... their extreme flaws, almost immediately. I know I've seen it mentioned several times in reviews about them being 25 but acting 16, and while I noticed this as well, I also have two male cousins who grew up in a similar situation (they were living in a trailer park or the projects depending on what town they were living in at the time) and are still extremely immature despite the fact that they're now in their mid and late 30's. This is realistic for some people.
I think my favorite thing about all of the books in this series is the banter; I really love their verbal ping-ponging back and forth, and I find their threats and insults more amusing the closer to each other they get. Of course, in the real world, Madd and Devon's relationship would be considered absolutely toxic and unhealthy, but, you know...fiction. Their relationship is totally fucked up and I love it :)
My highlighted bits:
"But I wanna tear you down while lifting you up. I wanna protect you and kill you at the same time."
Devon was the most stable thing in my life, and I didn't know how to cope with it changing, so I refused to let it.
In reality, from the outside, it probably looked like two low-rent, dirty trailer park assholes, sweating and grunting with red cheeks and fucked up hair. We wouldn't make a good porno, but I didn't care.
"Because you're a piece of shit asshole from Garron Park with a loud mouth and the ability to piss me off like none other...and you're exactly what I want. What I need."
Everything. This was everything to me. The lifeline I held on to, the light in my dark, the change that sparked the rest of my grim future into a murky one that had some hopeful light.
Ultimately, this is very nitty gritty, real-life shit for some people. Perhaps the toxic relationship being so good (lol) isn't realistic, but I appreciate that this portrays men who work hard for a living, get dirty, have shitty clothes, shitty vehicles, shitty jobs, and aren't unrealistically showered and coiffed every single time they're around each other.
I'm so glad I finally sat down to read this because this series has become one of my all-time favorites :)

An absolute sensational tug and pull of the love and hate relationships that thrive in enemies to lovers. But this book doesn't end there, it keeps on with the tension as the hate is very much alive along with this love story.

my gosh, that was a ride. Maddox and Devon were one of the most intense, rage, angst filled couple and it worked.. worked so well. Xavi and Nate were so wholesome and such good brothers.
I just wasn't convinced by the relationship or the characters like they were cute but I didn't really think the enemies to lovers was convincing and they just kinda of accepted feelings and moved on with the story really quickly without build up.

this book was saaaauuuur good!! getting to see devon and maddox slowly coming to tolerate each other and then care for each other and let someone in was truly so beautiful! the perfect balance of angst with fluff, and i love that the essence of the relationship maddox and devon have had their whole lives wasn’t lost, it just developed into something so *THEM*
