This probably wouldn’t have been worth 4 stars for me if it wasn’t absurdly funny. The fact that every compliment or confession was followed by a curse word killed me.

“I wanted to move in here with you as soon as I knew it was coming up. I rented it for us a fucking month ago, you dumb fuck. It’s not my fault you took so long to ask.”

That is just one example of their funny af relationship. Also, why the actual fuck were both their brothers so invested in their relationship? It was over the top to the point of creepy and they’re supposed to be twenty eight year olds. LOL what?

And this is a duology??? It was funny but I wasn’t so enamoured by this first one that I’d be willing to read the second book. Although, I am sad that they never said I love you in this book.

Another book raved about on TikTok and at over $30AUD via Amazon for the paperback I’m unsure about my investment and whether to read the rest of this series.

This is an enemies to lovers and I admit I’m a fan of REAL enemies to lovers, not I hate him or her because I really want him/her. I don’t think this one really fits the latter category because neither character seemed at the outset, to WANT each other. The tricky bit is the realisation of them both and how they reach it, as one minute fighting, the next minute they are into it. It felt something was missing in the in between.

Otherwise what made this book a bit of a struggle for me was the things I liked being not fleshed out enough - for example, the relationships between the boys and their dads, there was little back story and only the current depiction of a poor relationship, no why? We don’t even get a real sense of who the dads are? Also, Garron Park - tell me more! In my head I only had half an idea of the place, though I’m assuming it was pretty derelict but there was a strong sense of community? Otherwise … I wanted to know more about these guys place in it which I didn’t feel I got. That is, apart from them always being filthy (which does not sound at all appealing for mind).

Ok so what else didn’t work - they were supposedly 25 years old and it read as if they were in their late teens. The talk and the petulance despite their responsibilities and success at motor cross just didn’t fit. Also, the motor cross, as a point of difference there was so much untapped potential plot wise and there was nothing in the races we saw, apart from the partying afterwards, and one winning or losing. Disappointing.

So while I didn’t mind the book it felt a little underdone, like the other two books are being dragged out, without having meat on the bones of the first one.

Sigh TikTok, I really wonder about you.
