A read like a stroll through wildflowers. Family, love, and loss. These are the legacies we carry, remembered in a book like Tom Lake.

This was a weird one for me. I’ve always avoided this author and I can’t really explain why, but this year I’ve been challenging myself to read things I normally wouldn’t, and here we are.
Overall I was mind numbingly bored through the first 50-60%. I loved the descriptions of the farm and the family life and dynamics were a place I could have explored more but kept getting pulled back into the Duke story, which try as I might I couldn’t really bring myself to care about.
The last 70 pages were fantastic and it did make the read worth it overall, it’s just too bad that the whole book couldn’t have been as captivating as the end.
