This is such an intriguing premise! I'm particularly excited to discover that there's going to be a Volume 4 and 5 coming out in the next few months. Really excited about this as I've developed a real love for the budding relationships between Miyo and Kiyoka!
challenging emotional hopeful inspiring lighthearted sad

I loved this book it was a great start to a series I will be reading more of soon. The characters were interesting I especially loved Miyo and Kiyoka I really love how their relationship is slowly growing and Miyo is slowly gaining back her confidence among other things. I loved Miyo she was a wonderful and kind person who was so abused that she second guesses everything she is now slowly healing and learning to trust and that someone will actually love her despite what she calls failings. I really liked Kiyoka even with his gruff demeanor there is much more to him he is kind and caring and willing to go above and beyond to help Miyo. I loved the plot it starts with Miyo being treated like trash and less than human she yearns to escape this she then learns she has been sold off to someone she doesn't know that has unsavory rumors about him her family is terrible her step mother and half sister most of all she then meets Kiyoka there is misunderstandings but he is not all bad like she thought many other things happen her trash family is taken care of looking forward to reading more soon.

As a lover of Cinderella stories, this was very me-coded. This volume covers the main storyline I was interested in (dealing with Miyo's abusive family and finding her new family with Kiyoka) to completion. Of course, the effects of abuse in regards to Miyo's self-image will continue and will likely be one of the main conflicts of the books going forward. There's also, of course, her nightmares to deal with as well as her heritage and other things outside of Miyo and Kiyoka's relationship (I'm not as interested in these things, but I am enough to continue reading). Miyo and Kiyoka's relationship is so sweet and doesn't feel too much like a savior complex, which I appreciate. There's a quiet inner strength to Miyo that I appreciate, and having Kiyoka's help and support in order to allow her own strength and resolve to develop is what makes their relationship really work, not some arbitrary concept of Kiyoka completely saving Miyo from her abusive family, making everything be okay from then onwards (the approach taken is more realistic and better). The writing style is quite simple, so I didn't annotate too much of the text, but the way Miyo's abuse was written (as well as its impacts on her mindset) was done very well. Due to the simplicity of the writing style, some moments didn't hit quite as hard as they had when I read the manga and watched the film adaptations. However, this was definitely my type of thing and will remain in my favorites, even if the direction of the series doesn't go quite to my preferences. I like how each character was portrayed and am looking forward to see more of Miyo and Kiyoka's relationship as well as the continued strength of Miyo's character with her slow recovery.

If I hadn't seen the anime before reading this, I may have rated this lower. I just love this story so much! This is the first light novel I've read, and I enjoyed it. It's very similar to the anime. The difference that stood out to me was that you get more of the characters' inner monologue. At times, it read like a Wattpad book, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I couldn't put it down.

What I Liked:
- Girl learning to heal from abuse
- Gentle yet dangerous MMC
- Japanese Culture
- Subtle fantasy elements

What Didn't Work:
- I don't really understand the fantasy elements of this story. I'm assuming this aspect of the world will be expanded on in throughout the series.

This was an adorable little romance set in a slightly magical Meiji/Taisho-era (1910s) Japan. I wish it was a little longer but this volume ended well so that's fine.

What I say?: I don't like romance!
Miyo/Kiyoka: AHHHH, they're soooo adorable together. I need more of their happy marriage!! 😭

Me with Contermporany-Romance: πŸ™„πŸ’€ πŸ’© Not this bullshit again!! 🀦🀦🀦
Me with a sweet romance, slow- burn:πŸ₯°πŸ€§ πŸ€— πŸ’•πŸ’–πŸ’Ÿ They really deserve soo much to be happy togetherπŸ’ŒπŸ’—πŸ’–

Yeah, my biggest problem is with Rom-com/contemporary 🀣 I highly reccomend the anime series, and there's a live-action movie that I haven't seen πŸ’•

#Short book (series of short books)
#Japanese ancient - Asian historical romance with a small dosis of fantasy.
