I liked but didn’t love this one. This is a topic I think about a ton, and I think I’m going to simmer on a lot of the points the author made for a while. However, I almost think the book needed to be two different things: 1) an informational guide for how to structure gatherings and 2) a fun memoir about years and years of planning extremely cool events. I found that many of the “example” anecdotes were very interesting stories, but did very little to convey how one of the author’s ideas could be implemented.

This is an exciting take on switching how we gather to get the most out of each interaction. There were some definite standouts here - like how the hosting begins the moment you send out the invitation, not when they enter the venue... and how you can set the rules for engagement to make the evening unexpected but have it run smoothly. A worthy read for all in the events-sphere.

This actually influenced some of our ideas for our wedding reception.
