3.5 ⭐️, rounded up

I mostly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the swashbuckling and the historical fiction aspects of it. It was way different from what I expected.

However, it suffered from the same faults that Alice Isn’t Dead suffered from - long, long sections of telling what was going on. I could only get through those sections because I was listening to the audiobook.

I also wish there had been more Night Vale in the book. There were bits of it throughout, but I would’ve loved some more elements of the strange throughout the book even if there wasn’t more taking place in the town of Night Vale.

Having said that, I did still really enjoy this book! I loved the crazy characters and the story. There were just a few issues that made me take off a bit on my rating.

Without giving anything away, this is very much my favorite of the Night Vale novels, one of the best installments of the Night Vale world as a whole, and very much not the story I was expecting to hear. Mara Wilson's narration of the Faceless Old Woman remains top-notch, and I loved pretty much everything about the story.

I LOVE nightvale and I liked this book. This book was simply not for me, but please don't let that stop you from reading it. It is a story about rage and vengeance and is wonderfully told (and narrated if you listen to the audio book) and I did not see all of the twists coming (which is a testament to the authors story telling). I wish this had a happy (or as happy as it gets for the faceless old woman who secretly lives in your home), but then she would not be who she is. I would say that if you haven't listened to the podcast please do. And read the book is pirates and revenge are righr up your alley.

Fun, but just not for me I guess? A bit slow without building enough suspense for it to be worth it. I like the premise, but the voice didn’t appeal much to me. A little spooky, I just feel like it could’ve been MORE. Perhaps if I’d ever engaged with any night vale content before I would’ve enjoyed it more lmao

Not a bad book by any means, just not to my tastes really.

Holy fucking shit!  that ending was perfect and i didn’t catch it until she started talking to Darius. The path to revenge is so great and the faceless old woman is such a great character.
Kill my dad? Destroy my family? fine, your entire bloodline is cursed. Starting with your grandson I will help raise every one of your male descendants and when he gets old enough and marries a nice girl and has a son, I will kill him then. So that son will not have a father to grow up with.
The book is great but I definitely think that it drags for a while. I definitely didn’t catch the fact that
Edmund was a double crosser until it was too late.
every moment is a sign that i need to get back into WTNV. Because the writing is so good!!! I can’t recommend this book enough!!!!
