Didn't realize this was a series until I finished the book. Although I started on book 3 I'm glad I did. The world of Night Vale is so weird and strange, that if I would have started at book 1 I would have not read it all the way through, and just went to something else. The story of the Faceless Old Woman was different than anything I've read. I really liked her origin story and how it tied into where you meet her at the beginning of the story. I'm excited to see what story will come next in the Night Vale series and plan to check out the podcast.

Not what I expected. The life of the faceless old woman started out as almost normal and became a kind of exciting pirate escapade without all the weird that makes night vale , night vale but it ties it all together in the end and really makes you appreciate how things come to be in this weird and wonderful universe.

I like that this isn't a book that ends in the character really coming out of it as a better person, and also that the book really doesn't have an end at all. It's a continual story.
This will, with any luck, be added to my personal library soon.

"We all don't get happy lives. Maybe a happy life doesn't exist, at least not as some complete, discrete entity. We get what we get and we sort through how we feel about it moment by moment."

This was not at all what I expected from a Night Vale novel, but it was a fantastic origin story for the character that has always intrigued me the most from the WTNV universe. Usually I expect a good bit of nonsense when it comes to WTNV content, but this novel was more grounded.

I loved listening to the audiobook performance, narrated by Mara Wilson. This is one instance where the audiobook version really elevates the story, and I'd encourage everyone to give it a listen on its own or follow along with it while you read the book.
