Free kindle read. I haven't read much urban fantasy from a male standpoint but this was an interesting read. A new take on vampires is never a bad thing and this was set in Colorado, which added some local interest. Lots of action, lots of story and (for me, anyhow) a surprise ending. Solid storytelling.

Felix used to be in the military but while on a tour in Iraq it ended badly, stuck with his guilt he drew the attention of a vampire who turned him into a vampire. Now that he’s not longer in the military he’s working as a private detective trying to put his new vampire skills to work. Felix isn’t like the other vampires he relies on animal blood but after being on animal blood it’s starting to affect his vampire powers.

His current case has brought him to Rocky Flats, working for his old friend trying to solve the case of how several women ended up with a rare case of Nymphomania. Felix connects with the local chapter of vampires and sets to work to solve his case. However, he learns quickly that this case isn’t going to be as easy as he hoped as he’s dodging bullets and vampire hunters. Will Felix figure out what Redlight is? Will he stop the vampire hunters? What about his new love interest Wendy?

I like Felix he’s a good guy, even though he feels super guilty for the death of the little girl even though it was an accident. Unable to be forgiven he’s refused to drink human blood sustaining himself on animal blood but at a cost of weakening himself. Wendy is exactly as I would have expected to be supernatural herself. We are giving a little insight into the vampire world getting to new some of the Denver vampires.

My husband has been pushing me to read the Felix Gomez series because he loves it so much. I’ve been putting planning to read it but never seemed to get around to it just yet, but with the new year, it was a perfect time. The Nymphos of Rocky Flats is a fast paced action packed novel full of twists that kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end. A captivating novel with an easy to connect with the character that you can’t help liking, he has this charm that I like. I admit I wasn’t sure about the vampire concept at first because it is unique they don’t sparkle but they aren’t typical either. I really enjoyed the authors writing style he’s done a great job weaving an intricate story that I enjoyed. The Nymphos of Rocky Flats is a perfect introduction to an exciting new series which I look forward to reading. Highly recommend for urban fantasy fans who love a good mystery.

Fun little comedy. Ending is kind of lame. Could do worse.

Good but not my favorite version of vampires. Modern vampires are so…weird and I really love the more gothic, loner types who aren’t morally inept (for what they are). Like if you’re a vampire, drink the fuckin human blood. It’s literally the one job of being a vampire and the last two modern vampire books I’ve read have been that overly moral type that just kinda turns me off to the story and character. At least its well written. The end twist also gives me pause. Does this universe really require two different supernatural entities?

Is it just me or did anyone think the title was ridiculous? I expect any book that has nympho in the title to have lots of sex. I mean come on, isn't that what nympho means.... I love vampire books but this one was so far out of normal for me that it bordered on boring the whole time. Felix comes home from the war as a vampire, and becomes a detective. It seems decidedly so human instead of vampire strong though. He has to wear sun block, wtf.... And special contacts. Plus he drinks animal blood, because he doesn't want to get infected from human viruses. Weak...weak...weak. He doesn't even drink from humans, because of the innocent blood he spilled in the war. I understand thumbing our noses at regular vampire fiction but sometimes we cut off our noses to spite our face. The characters were very one dimensional, and the part where he bitch slaps a raccoon seemed unnecessary even if he was sharing a culvert with it. I didn't even chuckle the whole book, it seemed as hard as the author tried to make us laugh the more I didn't. I didn't get much entertainment from this book, I won't be reading the rest of the series.

Boy howdy... I grabbed this as an acquantaince was moving, thinking, based of the cover, that it would be like a sleazy version of Dresden Files or like a classier version of Sandman Slim. I wasn't exactly wrong, but the book is way less raunchy than the title imples. It's a fun first attempt at a book, but it definitely comes off as amateurish. A little mysogynist, a little nonsensical, an incompetent main character and tons of deus ex machina.
