I have a new favorite romance writer. review to follow

——

i’m so thrilled to announce that i have a new favorite romance author. annabel monaghan has my heart, y’all. i jumped online and bought a copy of same time next summer halfway through nora goes off-script.

there’s something so magical about her books that pull me in right away. it’s so funny (again) because i’m a twenty five year old child in an adult’s body, who’s never even come close to getting married (nor do i have any prospects)—and yet something about her lead female characters get me every single time!!! i think that only serves as proof of how well she writes. her books are a perfect mix of emotional and swoon, and i’m the biggest fan of them.

i teared through nora goes off script this afternoon, even going on goodreads halfway to announce that i, in fact, did not know why i was getting emotional over a roast chicken. while the premise of nora goes off script seems outlandish, i promise you this is nothing like whatever 1D fan fiction we’ve grown up with. this is a real adult relationship, evidenced by the maturity in both MC’s voices and the real consequences that follow. it’s sweet, emotional, sappy, and mushy at the right parts—and i love the angle she takes on with nora being a single mother. i love the role her kids play in the novel—and i especially love leo for feeling so grounded and real despite his background.

i’m thinking of doing a full-on author feature (eventually) once i get my copy of same time next summer, but if you ever need a reason to pick up nora goes off script, just remember that i cried over a conversation about roast chicken. mic drop.

Nothing special, but quick and cute. I liked Nora and the family a lot, but somehow the relationship between the two was too easy going and just everything ist right - from 0 to 100 without any conflicts
