What a ride. An action packed story with such a cinematic quality - the last book I said that was about was Children of Blood and Bone! Game of Thrones, Hunger Games, His Dark Materials - so many amazing Bookish vibes peppered in this brilliant book.

There is not much to say about this. The beginning and especially the character introduction is really repetitive and boring. Every single character is unlikable and has no morals. They also act really out of character sometimes, which makes me care for them even less. I honestly wouldn't want any of them to win.

I have never dnf a book before but I would rather do anything else than waste another second on this book.

Solid 4/5 stars

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I had high hope since I was interested by the summary alone, but I also DNFd the author's previous book A Shadow Bright And Burning. I couldn't make it through a quarter of that one as I was uninterested, so those feelings came with me when I opened up my app to read this. While I didn't fall in love with this book, it definitely caught my attention at the beginning and grew on me the more I read. I loved the different POVs, and I actually ended up liking all the characters! Some characters I didn't even expect to particularly care for and they ended up being some of my favorites.

The dragons and magic system in the book are good, but I wasn't completely sold on the whole concept. Some of it felt off and choppy to me, and I found myself wanting to brush over scenes at times becomes I just wasn't interested. It's more of a me thing though since I'm not a fan of dragons to begin with, so the fact that I even enjoyed it is a pretty good sign. Ending was also fantastic, and I look forward to reading the next book!

Overall, a really good book and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the sequel. If you're a big fan of dragons you'll probably love it. If you're like me and aren't really sold on dragons, I'd say it's still worth picking up!
