The miscommunication (read "lying by omission") trope is not my favourite, especially when mixed with the fake betrothal.
Not the strongest series opener, in my opinion, but the way Struan saw Poppy and was a decent person, not exposing her lies, salvaged this book. Poppy was kind of delusional and immature-- it was not endearing.
Not the most memorable of the series, but not terrible. I think the series gets better as it goes on.

A very satisfying Regency Era take on one of my favourite Rom/com movies, While You Were Sleeping.
It's just such a great storyline that Sophie Jordan was working with. I'm so glad she totally aced it. The set-up has florist's shopgirl Poppy daydreaming of the handsome and seemingly kind and generous Duke who visits the flower shop every week to buy flowers for his lady friends.
When the Duke is involved in a punch up with another gentleman in the street just outside her work, Poppy comes outside to intervene on his behalf. In the process, she pushes him out of the way of an oncoming carriage.
Turns out the other gentleman is the Duke's bastard half-brother Struan.
Poppy ends up escorting the unconscious Duke and his brother back to the Duke's townhome where she is mistaken as the Duke's fiancee.
The farce begins as Poppy, being a kind hearted person continues the charade at the urging of the Duke's best friend (who overhears Poppy telling the unconscious Duke the truth). Struan is drawn to Poppy. She is pretty, kind, generous and seems devoted to his brother, who he doesn't think deserves her.
Poppy and Struan have a great enemies-to-lovers vibe. Struan is a self made man and is jealous of his brother's luck at getting Poppy. He wants her for himself. He starts a seduction and Poppy finds herself unable to resist, but feels guilty for all her deception.

I find historical romances like this is very enjoyable if you just turn your brain off and enjoy the ride. 3.75 stars.
If I start thinking about it, the MMC was kind of overbearing and intense and the FMC probably should have been scared of him and how he didn't really respect her "no"s. But that's so often true with historical romances that it's hardly a concern as long as you are aware that any actions performed by the MMC (and honestly the FMC as well, what a weirdo) in real life would be a huge red flag.

Upon seeing that book two is up for an RWA award ( which also its tropes are YES) I decided to have a glance at book one. Which GUYS its a history of one of my favourite movies of all time. Peak Sandra bollock being adorbs, The dad from Casper being the love interest. All the YES.
Unfortunately, this didn't hit me right in the feels, it feels flat.
ts middle section was very slow moving. I read a book between the 40-60% mark because I thought to DNF.I couldn't connect with the chemistry between hot scot Straun and our shopgirl Poppy. The side characters were great ( as mentioned book two Graciellas book is on my TBR and Marcus, Poppy's sister even). The ending was rushed and it just lacked that spark.
Fairy average, unfortunately.
2.5 stars

Ridiculous. Several tropes that I typically don’t love, executed beautifully. Give me 14 of them.
This was really great! Sophie Jordan is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine! This retelling of While You Were Sleeping was just fabulous!
I loved Poppy and Struan but honestly who can resist a Scotsman?! Poppy’s sister annoyed me at one point but then I reminded myself that she’s 15 so that tracks. I love a man that goes after what he wants and Struan wanted Poppy

While you were sleeping is one of my favourite movies so pick it up and drop it in a historical romance I am on board. I loved Poppy, I keep looking for HR novels with a main character that isn’t nobility and they are so hard to find, so I loved that aspect too. I didn’t love Struan…I really hate the asshole type male leads, and he didn’t really ever do a softer side, which meant I didn’t really warm to him. These two were freaky tho and it was a lot of fun.

It was okay. Sweet and predictable, just not amazing. And not very funny either. Poppy was a touch insipid and Struan a bit dull. But I finished it so it can’t have been that bad!
The film is great though.

Two small notes:
I was afraid from the title/description this was gonna be like those movies where someone wakes up with their memory lost and another character LIES TO THEM and IMPOSES INTIMACY THROUGH THE WHOLE STORY, but it is not!! The description on the back means Poppy is mistaken for the duke’s fiancé when the Duke first falls into a come. No further notes because NO SPOILERS, just a clarification of the book’s description in case anyone was worried!!
Secondly, I found even three quarters through the book that o was already hyped for the other characters’ stories. Rarely am I THIS EXCITED for specific characters’ upcoming books!!

A little cheesy, a little sexy...
This book had some bad but a lot of good
I have to say that the scene of *making out on the street* definitely fixed every issue for me lol
Reading it on a plane was a bit awkward but totally worth it. Sooo sexy.
