If you’re a fan of classic Sandra B and the chaos that comes from lying about being involved with a man in a coma—you’ll enjoy this. lol. Very classic ‘90s romcom energy… just set in Victorian-era England.

Bazı eksiklikler vardı. Karakterlerin sağda solda kaçamak öpücüklerinden yola çıkarak aralarında ki çekimi yakalayabilirseniz pek âlâ... Ben hangi ara bir birlerine bağlandıkları çözemesemde, orta halli bir historicaldi.
Asıl üç numarayı merak ettiğim için başladım zaten

If you loved While You Were Sleeping + Regency romance, this is the book for you!
Well... that was weird.
For the first 60% of the book, Struan Mackenzie was downright predatory and creepy toward Poppy. And while Poppy didn't exactly cover herself in glory, she certainly didn't deserve to get stalked and perved on just because Struan was pissed that his dad abandoned his mother and his half-brother was a duke and he wanted revenge on the duke's family.
Then the switch between Poppy avoiding Struan at all costs and them falling in love with each other flipped suddenly. Talk about mood whiplash.
Now, I did finish the book, so it wasn't all terrible. But it was just weird.

While the Duke Was Sleeping is based on the classic romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping and I appreciate that Sophie Jordan tried to pull off a historical romance version. After Poppy, a London shop girl, saves the life of the Duke who frequents her flower shop—the man she is infatuated with—his family is mistakenly led to believe that she is the Duke's fiancee. But the Duke's half brother, hot Scot Struan Mackenzie, doesn't believe her. And that's how this web of betrayal starts. Honestly, I'm not a fan of books where deceit is basically the heart of the story, but I suspended disbelief and went with the flow because this book is based on a movie that I enjoy.
I loved the romance, chemistry, and sexual tension between Poppy and Struan. That's basically the best thing about this book. Electrifying sexual tension and chemistry is something that Sophie Jordan knows how to write really well. The build up, the tension, the angst, the feels, and the CHEMISTRY. I also really liked that both Struan and Poppy were lonely souls who just wanted a family and who found home in each other's arms. But if I go outside the circle of Poppy and Struan...well, that's where things kind of fall apart lol.
The supporting characters, as well as the situation that Poppy is in, just feel so wallpaper-ish, superficial, and unreal. Look, I suspended disbelief and went with the flow of the story, but every time we were brought back to the Duke's friends and family, I found it extremely hard to believe that every single member of the family believed that Poppy was engaged to the Duke and that they were all happy about it! I feel like there should have been some sort of explanation, aside from the Dowager Duchess's eccentricity, to convince the reader why this aristocratic family so easily believed and accepted the fact that the Duke would marry a shop girl. And it is equally unbelievable that the Duke's best friend thought Poppy was "sweet" and wanted her to continue with the ruse. It is constantly mentioned that the Duke's family and best friend feel like the Duke really needed someone like Poppy in his life. But the question is...why do they feel this way? What is it about the Duke's story that led his family to believe that a London shop girl is the girl he should marry? There's something missing here!
I understand why the author chose to have Poppy's crush be a Duke. She wanted to make this story as fairy tale-like as possible. But I think the story would have been a tad more believable if he wasn't a Duke, but instead a wealthy self-made man. Maybe even a self-made man who wants to marry into the aristocracy, but his family wants him to find true love and is pleasantly surprised that he fell in love with a shop girl. It just doesn't make sense that an aristocratic family would be okay with a shop girl being the next duchess.
Anyway, yea, so I tried my hardest to suspend disbelief and I think I did when it comes to the romance. But it was impossible to do so whenever we were brought back to the Duke's family because then it just felt like the romance was taking place on a stage, a superficial setting, with cardboard characters. That being said, the little hints we got about the Dowager Duchess and Lord Strickland...you know I'll be reading the next book LOL.

Loved this. It was fun to see the beginning of this series after reading book 3.
I loved Straun and Poppy they were a delightful couple to follow.
My biggest pet peeve was the issue needing one discussion to solve the problem.
