The fellowship is still by far my favourite of the books but this one has a nicer pace to it than the two towers. The first couple chapters of book 6 are just so unbelievable. lotr book slog over it does take some life out of you as much as i love them

The last lines hit really hard. Sam obviously deserves all the love. Frodo's pain and trials are so touchingly told. My favorite small character was Beregond. The depth and resonance of the lore is as enthralling as you hope. The power of fear and determinism is perhaps may favorite theme. Seeing evil weakened by bravery and hope and your friends showing up is obviously nice, and it still involves real fighting too and the battles are great.
"Praise them with great praise."
I've been trying to write a review for this book since four days ago, and I just can't.
Writing is really hard when you love something so dearly with all your heart and you feel it is about to burst with feelings.Sadness, anger, hatred, pain, love, joy, comfort...
It's almost impossible.
I wasn't reading these books.I've been living them.I was there when Bilbo found the Ring; when the dwarves got their mountain back; when Thorin became King Under the Mountain.I set out from the Shire with Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin to take the Ring to Rivendell and then to Mordor.
I ran through Moria, wandered in Lorien, fought the Uruk-hai with Boromir, pursued Merry and Pippin with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli.
I rode to Battle of Helm's deep with the Rohirrim, and fell with every single one of the fallens.
I was there when the Ents took Isengard; when Aragorn took the Path of the Dead to gather the army that once betrayed Isildúr; when Denethor lost his mind and Gandalf came to save Faramir.
I felt the fear of the people of Gondor when Sauron's army attacked the city, because it was my city too, and their happiness when Theoden King came to their aid, because I was losing the battle too.
I've been with Frodo and Sam in each and every step of their journey to Mordor; when they passed Ithilien, when they saw the statue of the King at the crossroads, when they were fighting Shelob.
I was there when Sam was crying over Frodo's body, when he was trying to gather his last bit of courage to go and save his master and when he finally succeeded.
I followed them in all their hopeless journey from that damned tower to the fire of Mount Doom.
And I watched Frodo claiming the ring for his own and then Gollum attcking him.
At the same time I rode to war with the Captains of the West to give Frodo the time that he needed.
I bowed to King Elessar, my king, with all the people of Gondor.
I went to the Shire with the Hobbits and fought to take it back from Sharkey's men; and then helped them to rebuild it.
Middle Earth is my home.
And you can't say anything about your home, can you??
Hannon le, Master Tolkien, for all these great things you gave to me.Hannon le.

THANK GOD ITS FINALLY OVER.
I applaud this series for its influence (key word, because Tolkien did NOT create high fantasy as a genre, which people love to mistakenly claim) on modern fantasy literature and media, but having said that, I do not find these books enjoyable AT ALL. They are riddled with inconsistencies and are underwhelming. I AM NOT ASHAMED TO SAY I FIND THEM MOSTLY BORING.
The way Tolkien goes about revealing his world building is not very inviting or interesting to me. The pacing is horrid for the first part of the series, which is really a dissuading introduction to the series for people who have never seen the movies. I do think Tolkien writes some beautiful prose, but his work just does do it for me overall.
I am tired of people acting like this series is the only good fantasy series to exist. WAKE UP. It was innovative for its time, but there is so much more to this genre now!!
