Where to even begin with this perfect little book? 220 pages of true beauty and flawless writing. This is the type of book that could never really be described. It is an experience that needs to be lived through; each page drawing you in even more, each character pulling you under the author’s beautiful spell... turning that last page, you feel the culminative effects of an emotional journey into a love story that isn’t the love story you were expecting. And it is a love story I will never forget.

I responded to this book even more on a deeply personal level: the emotions and fears of Michael and Ellis resounding through my being, echoing in my heart. We spend years dreaming about finding that perfect once-in-a-lifetime love, then suffer for the rest of our lives regretting letting that love slip away.

Throughout our lives we experience numerous relationships but, in the end, there’s only one that leaves its mark — its scar — on our hearts. And its that wound that this book so wonderfully, so delicately, explores.

The story starts us on that journey, then the book leaves us to finish that arduous hike through love. We will get tired. We will fall. And we will probably give up before we get to the top... without ever knowing how clear and beautiful the sky is up there...

This was a quick read, but that's part of the problem. There wasn't nearly enough detail, particularly on Ellis's behalf, to really get me invested in this story. I didn't love the formatting but got past it, but I couldn't get past how... vague everything was. The exception was Michael's part, which felt vibrant and moving and very real. The rest was rather meh and the story as a whole felt like it was trying too hard to be deep and meaningful without actually providing the goods to make it so.
