When you begin reading the New York Times’ number one book of the 21st-century, you go in with sky-high expectations. And while I cannot say with confidence that this is the best book of the 21st century, that title is rather ridiculous, if I’m being honest, I will say that it’s the most accurate depiction of female adolescence that I’ve ever read. I deeply felt the emotions and experiences of the characters, Elena in particular, since so much of what she describes is something I have felt in my childhood. One of the most relatable books I ever read.
I also loved the winding topics that the book covered. Without feeling contrived, Ferrante covered a range of issues such as politics, literature, and poverty, while keeping these heavy topics grounded in the plight of her characters.
Her writing is incredibly elegant and is an absolute joy to read. I was anticipating the pace to be fairly slow, and in some ways it definitely was. But as someone who enjoys a slice of life book, I found it both intriguing and complex in a way that made me want to keep reading.

The impact of this story resides in the cruel authenticity of it.
Being catapulted in the characters' life and feeling like you're one of them.
Even if the setting and the events are far away from you, you'll find yourself in the details.
Tried to read this book for two times, third time's the charm.
