I really liked this book, and I definitely can’t wait to read the books about some of the characters from this world.

I really liked Fenella and Oswald, and how clearly their relationship and interactions developed/changed over time. I liked Fenella and how she adapted to her circumstances. I liked Oswald, but I thought that there could have been a bit more on his job and what he actually does.

There were a lot of side characters, which I really liked, even though some of them could have appeared for longer amounts of time. Eden and Roland weren’t shown much, and I thought that the King and Queen could have been shown more. I wanted to see more scenes with Fenella and the King to see if his opinion would change if he actually let her speak, and I thought that the Queen was interesting, but not shown enough. Also, I wanted to see more scenes with Fenella and Oswald interacting with his brothers.

I really liked how this book was Fenella and Oswald already being married and trying to figure out their relationship. There was some talk of Oswald being the spymaster and needing to know everything that was going on at court, but mostly it was just gossip that was shown.

I liked that there wasn’t unnecessary drama because I thought that what happened at the end was justified, and it was resolved really quickly anyway. There is the matter of Fenella and Oswald not really being married, but Oswald did mention something about another wedding so I’m assuming he’s going to fix it without anyone finding out.

I’m definitely going to continue with this series and hopefully see Roland interacting more with Fenella and Oswald. I can’t wait to read Mathilde’s book, and I really hope that she doesn’t suddenly lose her shyness, but instead that the book will show her slowly becoming more open.
