You know, I'm not one for liking books where the hero treats the heroine badly. That's not the best description for this series though. Their words are cutting and they start out selfish, but their actions are protective and they are very jealous and possessive. It's a combination that you wouldn't think mix and yet the author pulls it off.

It's that protective, possessiveness they show that kept me going in the beginnings. I think it's the transformation you see unfold that makes me love these books. It's like they fall instantly for their heroines and they are clueless about it. They use shallow/selfish excuses to why they behave they way they do. As the story unfolds, you see the love that they are trying so hard to hide. I find that I really love that. It makes the endings so much sweeter.

I've only read book 1 and 2 so far, but I'm loving the heroines as well. They are very sweet and kind characters. They don't have a mean or manipulative bone in their bodies. I think in other scenarios, I would think they were doormats to the hero, but it really doesn't come off that way in this series. I put that down to the magic of this authors writing.

I'm really not a fan of the 3rd brother but this author has proven that she is worth the read so I will be diving into it very soon. I was also very glad to see a side character in this book has her own book coming. I'm looking forward to more from this author.

Fenella and Oswold are great, but the side characters made this book for me! It would have been way less enjoyable to see Fen struggle at court without the Girl Gang she created around her.

Also, there's an A+ grovel, which is an Alice Coldbreath standard.

It really bothered me how different Oswald was in this book from the first. How could he be so clueless with his wife when he was so empathetic with Lynette? He really was pretty unforgivable for the first 3/4 of the book. The resolution, however, was satisfactory.
